If Forbes valuation numbers are correct, of course they can't afford the Soto of the world.

Economics of MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL are all very, very, very different. This is not the mid and late 90s when being a top spender was a max payroll of like 60M. Player salaries have increased (contracts are also guaranteed) at a far greater rate than the increase of revenue, especially for small market teams.

The team has been built on moving "proven talent". Kluber = Clase, Clevenger = Josh Naylor, Cal Quantrill, Austin Hedges.
playoffs in like 8-10 years.
The only 0 to show for almost every trade they have made of "proven talent" is WS. While big market teams with the revenue to pay big money are about the same over similar periods of time.
Not to mention that most of the moves of "proven talent" have ended up with said "proven talent" disappointing the teams they ended up with (performance, health, cost financially and what they gave up).

Not for a lack of trying, or because they traded away "proven talent".
I get Fandom and disappointed fandom. I dont get placing blame on factually inaccurate things.
