NFL Draft Travis Hunter — too special not to draft?

OconRecon

If you're juiceless, you're useless
Seems like he’s going to be the pick at two.
I know this because 𝕏 feels this way, & has for a whole day, or two.

Might be too special to pass up.

• #1 player on the country coming out of high school
• #1 player coming out of college (the top player on most big boards)
• Hardworking - WR, CB, KR, PR … does it all
• Smart - see McShay’s stuff below

Academic First Team Honors?
I wonder if he goes up against the smart kids in the science, technology, engineering and math departments or if this is limited to players?
Dunno, and we all know the "athletes and classes" thing, but if it were common and easy to do, you'd think there would be more than 8 who have done it.

It's a mild point, but one that I kind of like as a sidenote.

================

Jersey numbers available for Hunter: 1, 2, and 12. All would be cool.

I still hate the idea of bargain shopping for a QB. Hate it hate it hate it.

So, I'm trying to lean into this Hunter idea. Moss made Culpepper. Mike Evans made Manziel. There is precedent whereby an outstanding WR can "make" the QB.

Maybe, it's get the RB, get the OL as solid as possible, get TE2, and get a true WR1 in Hunter and bring back Stefanski's pulling-guard offense.

Psychology. Reportedly 3.8, so not nothing.

If the rumors are true, Sanders is likely to fall outside the top 5, but I can't see the Saints not interested at 9. They weren't at his Pro Day though.

It could be a free fall, with the Steelers the next option at 21 without trade up. If the Steelers let Sanders go, I would expect Berry to give the Vikings a call at 24 to move ahead of the Rams. The Vikings are in need of picks after trading up for Dallas Turner last year.

All of this is to say the Dream Draft is possible. It would just require 2 teams (Saints, Steelers) outside of the top 3 to not be interested. I guess you could add the Raiders and Jets, but I am very dubious after the Geno and Fields signings. I think they want to compete now with the QBs they have.

As this is the Hunter thread, I'll say it is impossible to not like the pick. He is probably the most talented prospect in the Draft. I think he plays primarily WR here. I'm guessing Jeudy will be the WR who moves around since Hunter is raw and Tillman hasn't show that ability. In 2-WR sets, it will probably be a rotation between Tillman and Hunter, dependent upon how much CB Hunter has had to play.

So he is the #1 WR in the draft? Because previously I was under the impression he was really good on both sides of the ball, but not the #1 prospect on either side. It was the combo that made him special.

Not a big fan, but it does seem they think he is a special talent. Hope they are right.

Have seen his 40 time is supposed to be between 4.2 (Max Preps) & 4.4, and his RAS is estimated to be 9.5.

His tape is pretty great.

Reportedly loves football, so no lack of desire. He’s a junky.
Well, also loves fishing. Fresh water. 🤷🏼‍♂️

ProDay notes:
• “somehow, he’s quicker in person”
• “no one will cover him 1-on-1”
• “never decelerates”

I don't know what 7 Teams you're counting. Like I said, all indications are the Raiders and Jets are out. The Raiders just paid Geno and Carrol isn't coming back at his age for a rebuild. Glenn just saw what a talented 1st Round QB can do in his 2nd Act with Goff. Marrone (Jets GM) said himself that they are excited to see what Fields can do. I would be shocked if they undercut this Fields revitilization attempt with Sanders.

OK, that leaves the Browns, Giants, Saints, Steelers, and maaaaaaaaybe Rams. Rams are irrelevant as we have the capital to get ahead of them. That's 3 outside of ourselves. If we pass on Sanders for Hunter, which makes sense from a strictly BPA perspective, there is nothing we can do if any of these 3 decide on Sanders.

BUT the Giants just signed Wilson and Winston so the indication is they aren't interested. Daboll is also on the hot seat and needs Ws now. I believe it is even more likely that they pass on Sanders than we do.

So now we're down to 2. The Saints and Steelers. Is it possible to get ahead of the Steelers (21) with 2nds and 3rds (we have 2 3rds this Draft)? Maybe. The Vikings got up to 23 without giving up a 1st last draft with that package, and our picks are more valuable. I have nothing on the Saints.

I don't know. Berry said with a smile, "Can we get both?" at the Colorado Pro Day. I don't think that's a joke. Maybe they're hearing that it's very possible.
