Browns Game Thread Commanders vs Browns - PSG2

Who stood out to y’all?

For me

The good: JOK, OBO, DTR, E. Moore, Austin Watkins, Cedric Tillman, UDFA Hickman, ZDS & the entire starting DL, MJE, Ika, Cam Mitchell, the OSU lineman rookies, and of course no significant injuries

The bad: AJ Green, Cade, Hudson, and of course Schwartz. Stefanki’s 4 running plays on first and goal were pffft, so I’ll tell myself he didn’t want to show anything. Thornhill could have wrapped better.

The meh: Dobbs & Mond

The Good:

- The 1st drive. Mixed up the play calling. Watson looked smooth. Moore was a legit weapon. Not having Chubb clearly hurt around the goal line as we probably would have pounded it in with him. But overall...nice drive by the 1's.

- Watson looked comfortable and smooth. Pocket presence was there. He broke a tackle from Chase Young (which is not easy) and took off for a nice gain. Had a nice rapport with Moore. When Cooper is playing and Chubb is on the field...Watson is only going to look even better.

- Moore looked like a piece we were missing last year.

- DL additions flashed.

- DTR looks good. Have to remember he is playing against the end of the other teams roster (3rd stringers and guys trying to make the practice squad); so don't read a ton into it. But he looks like he has potential.

- Austin Watkins flashed. He should make this team. I just hope politics don't prevent it.

The Bad:

- Mond and Dobbs stink. But I told ya'll from day 1 they both stink. So this isn't surprising.

- Schwartz sucks. But I told ya'll from the draft that he was a waste of a pick. So this isn't surprising.

- York missing more FG's is concerning.

- Not punching it in on the 1st drive. Although, I think having Chubb in the line-up would have changed that; I think the play calling was bad inside the 10 yard line. But I'm not worried, we will be fine there when the season starts IMO.

1st drive — so, ya have this all world QB and RB3 & RB4 in the backfield. Stefanski, maybe you could have done 1 or 2 creative Watson-based plays and get the 1’s outta there w with a TD.

York is awful.
There was case to be made that Bojorquez might be the problem with the way he's holding the ball this morning on 92.3 theFan G Bush' show. I re-watched the game today and he hit the extra point perfectly. I saw nothing different in the way the ball was set up on the XP compared to the FG. IDK, maybe I'm wrong and I'm missing something?

Anyway, on the XP York just seems way more confident and the ball was dead center.

Interesting. Could be, but if so you would think the Browns would know that too and try something different. Looks like he is over kicking the ball and it is slicing on him. Could have everything to do with how it's being held, I have no clue.

Same.
All I do is watch the hold for consistency. The XP and FG seemed to have an identical hold by Bojorquez to me.

The other option is to try a different holder like maybe DTR? That would be optimal to have the backup QB as a holder like in the old days.

You have to take any preseason grading with a grain of salt. We aren't running our true offense/defense schemes...the opposing teams aren't running their true offense/defense schemes; play calling is watered down; match-ups aren't true match-ups, etc... And when you watch Mond...then PFF gives him the top grade...it pretty much tells me these rankings are extremely flawed in the preseson.

But to talk out of the other side of my mouth, it's nice to see Hurst, Smith and Oko up there; and stinks to see Thornhill so low. Absolutely alarming to see Wills so poorly rated....but Schwartz is exactly where I expected him to be.
