Browns The 2025 hunt for a QB

OconRecon

If you're juiceless, you're useless
What say you all? Watson has stumbled though the easiest part of our schedule, and we've now seen good QB play turn teams around in an instant. Texans. Commanders. Vikings. Etc. Looks like we need to draft a pile of O-lineman and QB's. As many as we can.

Fuck it, we can always go to this bankrupt hot mess lololol
(oh wait, we're a hot mess too, sooooo, maybe he's built for us)

Cam Ward if he is available. Jalen Milroe is too much of a project and Shadeur Sanders will not play for Cleveland (Deion). Otherwise we take a Tackle like Campbell and we try for cheaper options this off-season.

Of course this latest stroke of on-field misery, which as we all know, inevitably & mercificully yields to draft stock fortune, occurs in a weak QB year. We're as likely to swing & hit on a draft pick as we are to end up with some 2nd-wind retread situation like darnold in Min, or swing a trade like Atl with Cousins. Makes me wonder what if any teams have a QB surplus brewing, or what QBs will be free agents - not that any FA QB wants to go to cleveland. I'm certainly not a believer in DTR, any more than I am that we can run it back with Watson as the sole presumptive starter. Hell I'd re-sign Flacco as the starter in a heartbeat & then draft someone in the 1st round.

From what I'm seeing, Cam Ward is as solid as you can expect from a Top-End 1st Round QB. Not a bonafide, No. 1 Lock like Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Caleb Williams, but certainly not a reach at no. 1 at all. 5-Year Starter, but age will not be an issue at 22 currently. Prototypical Size (6'3''), quick release, strong arm, impressive statistical production, and currently undefeated. May win the Heisman.

If we're not picking no. 1, you are absolutely right. We are fucked.

I’d be shocked if he wasn’t back with that check Haslam signed! Give him a healthy oline and Chubb run game and it’s a totally different situation. That’s what I thought we would see this season barring the Chubb delay!

3 things that are flat wrong by the national media

1) “The Watson era is over” - only correct of we find the QB of the future. We haven’t yet, sooooooo
2) “The Browns are handicapped / in-cap-hell with the Watson contract”. Nope. We are not.
3) “all” (implied) the CLE fans cheered his injury. The vast majority didn’t.

Watson's biggest problem is that he's no longer quick enough to get away from the rush. He made a living in Houston by breaking the pocket and creating space and looking downfield. I didn't see him create any space last year or this year. Unless he comes back faster, he's cooked. But TBPP is right: Watson definitely looked better his last 4 quarters, but that's not saying a lot.

That's right.
When was the last time any QB said anything about hanging in the pocket to the last moment, standing tall, delivering an accurate throw and to the correct WR based on what the defense was doing? Or just stepping up in the pocket and making a throw.

It's all about scrambling and throwing on the run while WR's scramble around too. It's chaos.
