His argument is Atlanta has only 5 picks this Draft, and 2 of them are in the 7th Round. In a Draft like this, where the talent levels out relatively early, it may be better for them to get an extra 2 selections (67, '26 2nd), with a trade back to the start of the 2nd. In truth, for Atlanta it really is picking up 2 extra 2nds for the trade back since 67 is at the top of the 3rd.

Minnesota is the only team with fewer picks. They have 4 and have been heavily rumored to be interested in moving back for extra picks.
 
The 2nd pick of the draft, Von Miller, led the Bronco defense, no?
20th overall of the 1st rd in 2008 CB Aqib Talib was there.
Our friend S TJ Ward was the 6th pick in the 2nd round of the 2010 draft.
Derek Wolfe another 2nd Rd DT had 1st rd pick DT Sylvester Williams next to him inside on their DLine.
I might be missing more high picks or two, but ok.

Any other teams with no "high draft picks" or was this the only one?

Because if there's something to this building a team with no high draft picks AB should be immediately fired with prejudice.

What? Did I say anything whatsoever about a great team not needing great players drafted in the 1st round? Of course they do. But great teams also need several big-time hits on mid to late round draft picks. Cheap/good players are as important as the 1st rounders.

If you watched that Denver defense, you'd have seen that Malik Jackson dominated the playoffs. He played so well the Broncos couldn't afford to keep him.

Trevathan as well had a fantastic year.

Sure, you need to hit on some mid rounders, but you can't live on those, and true difference makers get harder and harder to find with each passing round.

I guess you need it all.

My response was to jaydog asking, "Why would a team give up their middle of the 1st round pick for two 2nd round picks and a third?"

I agree with you that WE should not trade down. But I would like to see the Browns trade up for someone they love.

It's moreso you need to know when and where to look for positions, what rounds.

As an example, 1st round: #1 WR, QB, lockdown Corner, DE1, Linebacker, Free Safety. Look for these skilled positions early on.

2nd-4th rounds: WR2, WR3, DE2, NT, UT, CB2, RB, SS, LB2, LT, C etc.

3rd-6th rounds: LG, RG, Slot WR, Nickle corner, Special Teams, RT etc.

There is also the adage of don't get cute with it and don't outsmart yourself. A great example of that was watching us stuck in perpetual 4-12 trying to outsmart the rest of the NFL while Marvin Lewis was down in Southern Ohio stacking his rosters with 1st and 2nd round caliber talents that fell to him throughout the drafts.
 
32nd ranked offense last year, and we have in the edge room:

- Garrett - top ranked
- McGuire - 13th ranked edge, and #3 run defending edge on a rookie deal
*** only the Steelers also have two top ranked starting edges ***

- Tryon-Shoyinka - recently signed first rounder
- Okwara - recently signed third rounder
- Wright - still ascending
- OBO - still here
- Hall - can bump out

Just doesn't sound like we're gearing up to draft a d-end. Even if you don't like the non-starters in the room, Myles and McGuire are legit.
