Browns Deshaun Watson - Football Talk

Stefanski inherited a talented roster, minus the QB
Pretty big minus yet he made BM and JB top ten(I think?) QBs
perpetuating drama and making them worse.
What drama since BM?
He took a Superbowl window that was wide open, and slammed it shut.
With two backup QBs and a guy that hasn’t played in 700 days. Not to mention a defensive that can not handle their side of the ball.

We get it, you wanted a different HC hired.

We get it, you don't see the win/loss column. The perpetual yearly drama, and players only meetings. The inability to manage his coaching staff. The horrific game day coaching. The lack of fire. The inability to cater to his players strengths. The over reliance on analytics. The nonsensical cute plays in critical situations. I could go on. But after three years you are thrilled with his ability to elevate this team to 5 wins, so what's the point?

Much different today. No BS fuckery plays and take the FG's when they are chip shots.

That was a big takeaway for me today. The game was coached much, much better. The weather was brutal and tough for QB's and kickers (swirling 25 MPH wind) and Stefenski played to win the game anyway necessary.

Watson is getting more and more comfortable each week, but there are a few things to keep in mind while observing and making rash (because that is what 99% of the judgements from fans are as 99% really have no clue what they are watching) judgements.

1) The OL is terrible.
- Frodholdt is not a center and is very bad at playing center. However, it's not his fault; he was thrown into the position after losing our top 2 centers during the season. The center is extremely important to an OL and ours continues to allow the entire OL to be blown up over and over. It's a serious problem. It's effecting the run game big time as both OG's have to help and obviously allows the pocket to collapse from the inside regularly on passing downs.

- OT's are under-performing and a problem. We've gone over Wills multiple times. He is not a LT. He gets beat regularly; gives up on plays regularly; stands around; false starts regulary, etc... He's bad and needs to be moved to RT this off-season. Conklin is toast. He's done. He is commits plenty of penalties after getting beat regularly.

2) No consistency in the WR corp.
- Deshaun has not played 2 games with the same group of WR's on the field. Yesterday he had Baldwin, Woods and Felton playing WR. This doesn't allow for chemistry and familiarity to be built. You saw yesterday near inside the 10, on a scramble, Woods was unaware that he should have gone up field and sat on the route instead...Deshaun tried to lead him to the EZ... and it cost us a TD. An experienced WR goes up field and that would have been an easy TD. Point being, our WR's not consistently being healthy is another issue causing the offense to take longer to gel under Watson.

Just based on what I have seen in 3 games with Watson, he is going to be right back to being electric as soon as we field a competent OL and get him at least 1 WR who can stretch the field...and the others stay healthy and on the field of course.

Just based on what I have seen in 3 games with Watson, he is going to be right back to being electric as soon as we
"fire the entire FO and coaching staff, redraft randy moss and joe thomas, have perfect conditions, zero future injuries and yeah..we should be good after that."

I was told this guy was SUPAFRY a top 3 talent in the NFL.a hybrid vick/manning super dual threat
thats what YOU CLOWNS were raving about before he came.I was so excited...all hype Im afraid.
right now?Im watching baker fu&king mayfield playing like an all pro and I feel physically ill.
look at the stats.WTF is he waiting for to explode in electricity? a jumpstart?

stop blaming KS.you want to re-enter the QB/HC carousel?lets just stay on the QB carousel.thats bad enough because when you cant blame the QB?the HC gets fired.cant blame the HC?QB gets traded.
then the QB complains "Ive had 3 HC's in 4 years, how can I play well?" but we fired them to keep u!
we need a QB rebuild Im afraid.target 1 of the top 2 QB's in the '23 draft and we can move forward.

IMO ya boy is damaged goods.his nerves are shot.his confidence? gone.look at his eyes.guys lost.
the kid is in way over his head and is a deer in the headlights at this point.TRADE HIM!
do you guys understand what is at stake here? If he plays like this next year?we are stuck with that deal.we'll be crippled for half a fu*king decade and facing burrow, pickett and jackson into the future

you know what If we did as I suggest and turbo charge our D? we could win with JB.
JACOBY BRISSETT
look at his stats.he was on track to have a top 10 QB season.thats verging on a franchise player IMO.
WTF we doing y'all? we just threw our season away behind a BUM! and now the entire franchise?
we just sign JB to a long term deal and powerhouse our O-line and D in the drafts.
get rid of fu&king fakeass playboy watson. hes a fraud.he's broken man.broken AF.look at him.
we dont even need to draft a top 2 QB.(stroud or young) we sign JB,trade DW to the lions or seahawks for their 2 x 1st rd picks then draft hardcore O-line and D with a FAT '23 draft..

that right there?right there is a recipe for winning in the AFCN of 2023.provided for free.welcome.
I hope Mr Haslem reads this.If it fails?we draft a QB the next year, theres still hope but If we stick
with watson and that fails and we are stuck with his enormous debilitating contract and cant move him?
we are doomed, doomed I tell y'ee! Its a HUGE gamble on a guy that looks so terrible.I dont like it.
Im not ready to go all in with watson after his play.its just so bad,its not close to where he needs to be.
hes had so much time to physically and mentally prepare for this.so much to prove so motivated an
thats it? you've got to be kidding right? no thats not ring rust my friends.thats fatal corrosion.

why not 3-4 an we rush a LB almost every play to help our front 3 (works with MG mostly)
NT-carter(R)
DE-MG,clowney
LB-JOK,simpson(R),walker,taki
SS-henderson(R)
FS-JJ3
CB-ward,newsome,emerson

This might be relative to KS actually playing him in the pre-season with other veteran regulars. If KS is afraid to play guys and get them up to game speed for game 1. It's going to cost us some early losses.

I don't want any excuses next season. He was bad in every metric last season.

In 2020, Houston was 4-12 with Watson at QB. In 2021, Houston was 4-13 with Davis Mills starting at QB.

There is no question Watson is more talented than Mayfield. There is also no question that we paid Watson WAY TOO Much.

If we don't make the playoffs and win at least one playoff game next season, Watson will be a failure.

I agree mostly.
But we all know how crazy unforeseen shit comes up during a season that can wreck it and KS is not the type of HC that keeps his players in line and focused through difficult times. Not that he doesn't try. He just doesn't have that aspect about him that I've seen. For example, I could not go up to the podium after a loss and say I'm proud of my players because they worked hard. That's BS.

Speak the truth and say we had too many ME's on defense and ST's that cost us the game. That's on me and my coordinators and I'll continue to work to fix it until we all find answers.

That's a way to make a veiled threat to the staff and players. Figure it out. Or suffer consequences like I will if it doesn't get fixed.

Lamar Jackson has exceptional skills. But I will say with total honesty and truth, I gave him 5 years and a blowout injury or something. Kind of a R. Griffin III thing. Where we are at it's somewhat relatable. "There are no old running backs in this league." If he continues on, a long-term giant contract is ridiculous.
