NFL Draft The number 2 overall pick

OconRecon

If you're juiceless, you're useless
So, what are we thinkin' boys?

I see here, we have a nice mix of Ward supporters, Sanders supporters, Allar supporters, and trade-back supporters.

I'm for taking the QB. Don't know which one. Unless we trade for, like, JJ McCarthy. I'm assuming they'd want our first rounder though. Not sure I'm cool with that. Unless they want Travis Hunter, and offer McCarthy and their (late) first round for him. Even then, eh.

ESPN Radio this morning saying if Allar wins it all, he'll go number 1 overall. 6'5" 240 pound national champion at the age of 20 isn't going later in round 1.

Another thought is this is AB's last chance to save his GM job, which typically means selling off future draft picks to make a splash this year, as if it doesn't work out, it's someone else's problem. The only difference here is Haslam seems to love AB, and AB may not want to burn the bridge to some other Browns promotion.

The PR homerun of course is Allar. Big, strong-armed, CLE native. I'll have to admit, after all of negativity lately (3 wins, Watson, stadium debating), I'm craving a big positive something. Anything substantial.

Trade scenario spitballing thing:

First trade

Patriots get Pick #2
Browns get Pick #4, 37, 68, 79 and 2026 2nd Rounder

New England, which needs a new coach and has QB Drake Maye, traded up for the rare two-way player Hunter is.

Second trade

Panthers get Pick #4
Browns get Pick #8, 55 and 73

Carolina moves up to select the best defensive end in this year’s draft, Abdul Carter, while Cleveland adds more top 100 picks

With the QB plan being:

QB Jalen Milroe, Alabama

Here is what we know about Milroe: Very raw passer, very athletic, great student and very hard worker. With extra picks, we will bet on those characteristics to be developed alongside a veteran (say, Kirk Cousins) for a year or two

I'd stay at 2 and pick a QB. Resolving the QB issue is first & foremost. I'd also take a shot on Will Howard, Jaxon Dart, Drew Allar and anyone else reasonably equipped to be a starting NFL type QB. I'm taking two QB's this year and maybe next year.

I like a good bit of Howards game... I think he could translate well in the NFL

I do to. His issue is arm talent. I'll be watching closely Friday if he has enough zip on the ball, while still being accurate. For as big as he is I think he can get there. 6'04 235 4.85 40. He doesn't have to be blazing. Just be reasonably mobile & elusive in the pocket like Pig Ben.

The only way we trade out of the number 2 pick is if we hate the available QB, and for some reason, another team has the exact opposite QB-assessment, and are willing to back up the draft pick truck.

Allar intrigues me. Curious to his real size and weight. I’d like to see a real deep dive into his mechanics, smarts etc.
I followed him in HS as one of my boys played against him in the playoffs one year.

Hes Definitely been improving and has made some reall big strides this year.

Yeah, Josh Allen was considered to have bad foot mechanics. It's a common concern in young QB's who have let their big arm and decision making carry them.

Allar's stats for this year:
  • Passing Yards: 3,192 yards
  • Touchdowns: 24 touchdowns
  • Interceptions: 7 interceptions
  • Completion Percentage: 67.4%
  • Rushing Yards: 285 yards
  • Rushing Touchdowns: 6 touchdowns
30 touchdowns? I didn't know. Of course, Josh Allen had 42 his senior year (passing+rushing)

Here's a look back to when the Niners had the 2nd overall pick, and they traded it...

The Chicago Bears traded up to select quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
To move up one spot from the No. 3 pick, the Bears traded with the San Francisco 49ers.

Bears received:
  • No. 2nd overall pick

Niners received
  • No. 3 overall pick (2017), a first round pick
  • No. 67 overall pick (2017), a second-round pick.
  • No. 111 overall pick (2017), a fourth-round pick.
  • No. 70 overall pick (2018), a third-round pick

Thanks for digging that up.

We could possibly forgo a few later picks for that future 1st rounder?
