NFL Draft The number 2 overall pick

What’s the story again about what happens at the top of round 2?

Actually, much of the 2nd round is wonky. What’s the method there again? Why doesn’t it follow the exact order of the first round?

Found this. I guess all teams with the same record, do round by round cyclical swapping, within the tier of their final record.

So,

- the 3 loss teams cyclically swap w each other
- the 4 loss teams cyclically swap w each other
- the 5 loss teams cyclically swap w each other

Etc etc

When we were 0-16, we were the only zero win team, so we sat at the top of each round.

The path to FIFTEEN picks (no, I don’t know why we need 15, as really all I care about is the QB, and I don’t see where in this scenario, we end up with anything other than Cousins)

Trubisky-like trade, if you can get a third, fourth and future third by trading back one spot to a desperate Giants team that is going to be fired midseason if they don't hit on a quarterback then it should be a very tempting start.

Then they can look for a trade to move back based on whoever wants Hunter or another prospect in the draft, sending the second pick and a sixth rounder for a first rounder and a fifth rounder as well as a 2026 first rounder, ready for moving up for a quarterback next year.

This would be turning the 2nd pick and a 6th into:
6th pick
Giants 3rd
Giants 4th
Raiders 5th
2026 Raiders 1st
2026 Giants 3rd

If we work on the basis they also add the Glenn Cook compensation pick as well as getting the final selection in the draft too they are left with these picks:

1st - One
2nd - One
3rd - Four
4th - Two
5th - Two
6th - Four
7th - One

If we don't go with Sanders or Ward, we trade down and draft the best offensive left tackle available and then take a flyer on a QB we like later.

If we don't draft a QB in the first round, I'd bring back Watson and start him every game until he gets hurt again and go 3 and 14 and take one of the several good QBs coming out next season.

It sucks being in purgatory. But now the most exciting time (again) to be a Browns fan all year is the lead up to the draft. Ugh.

I'd use a 2nd on Howard IF there isn't an obvious can't miss Tackle. Take that Tackle. Then I'd use a third or two to get back into the 2nd ASAP for Howard or whoever the QB is that they like.

Get a damn QB 1 or two. Someone who has a legit shot to be a quality starting QB.

I think both Sanders and Ward have a good chance of being solid NFL starters. Not sure if the Browns agree.

I don't know either. But if we take Carter at 2 was the question. I'd rather take a Tackle if we opt for no QB at 2 and IF we don't trade down. Possibly Jeanty but I personally don't want an RB that high. We need a QB. And a tackle. We need a Tackle.

Carter is a can't miss guy, but we've developed McGuire, Wright and have Okoronkwo to back up MG.

Problem with any trade for McCarty talk is MIN has zero reason to trade him, unless they don't believe he can actually be the guy.

First at the end of the day only MIN knows how much is real and how much is smoke and mirrors with Darnold this year. For the sake of discussion we'll just go with it's mostly real. It is still only one year of production. Investing the going QB contract price is not something you do with so much bad production vs one excellent year of production.

Lets say you could sign him at the going rate, but on a 3-4 year that allows you to get out of it after 2 or 3 years. You got rid of the guy you believe can be that guy for a draft pick. You're right back where you were, but actually worse off.

MIN can franchise Darnold, see if it was a one year wonder or if he truly is the long term answer. With JJ on the roster you get more time to evaluate him (double check you're belief he can be the guy) and if Darnold was a one year wonder you have JJ.

Darnold really has become the guy you lock him up after 2025, and then you move JJ.
