Derek Anderson says "ruthless" Browns fans "don't deserve a winner" | ProFootballTalk.com #NFL

Former Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, cut on Tuesday by the team, ripped Cleveland fans via an e-mail sent to Jeff Schudel of the News-Herald.

"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," Anderson said.* "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured.* I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and [we] roll them."

Anderson also said that, after the 2009 season ended, he heard from no one with the organization until learning that he had been cut.

The cheering incident to which Anderson refers occurred in November 2008, when fans reacted happily to the fact that Anderson was on the ground, writhing in pain.* As it turned out, he had torn a knee ligament.

The team's quarterback quandary traces to the 2007 season.* Rookie Brady Quinn held out in a contract dispute, making Anderson the backup to Charlie Frye in Week One.* Frye was benched during the 34-7 loss to the Steelers, and he was traded to Seattle a couple of days later.* Anderson took the reins.*

It was presumed that Anderson was merely holding the spot until Quinn was ready, which of course meant that Anderson experienced no pressure.* Which allowed him to hold the ball a little more loosely and play well.* Until the playoffs were on the line and the pressure caused him not to play well.

After the season, the Browns badly misread the situation, re-signing Anderson and making him the starter.* Inevitably, he held the ball tighter and looked over his shoulder and ultimately was benched.* After Quinn was injured, Anderson returned, only to suffer the knee injury that prompted fans to applaud.

So Phil Savage/Romeo Crennel regime made a huge mess in 2008.* Finally, someone is trying to clean it up in a decisive way.

This time around, we can't fault Browns fans for cheering.

What a dumbshit. He e-mailed a beat writer to tell all the fans off?

Good fucking riddance, asshat. And this is the guy (and his stooge) Stan adores so much.

Well, he's right...the fans who cheered when he got hurt don't deserve a winning team.

But he's wrong to tar the entire fanbase because of the mixed multitude of morons that every team has. Ours only stand out more because we suck so bad.

Quite possibly the worse QB I have ever seen. He will never learn from his mistakes and will continue to make them with his next team. To whoever signs him I hope you enjoy the false starts, fumbled snaps, throws into triple coverage and batted passes at the line.

Good Luck Boatshoes! This has taken two years to long.

My sentiments exactly, Alo and Crow. There are douchebags in every stadium who would cheer an injury... and that does NOT mean you e-mail Schudel to tell all Browns' fans to eat shit and die.

Bad form. But he ain't the brightest bunny in the forest.

He's a moron and this just proves it, once and for all.

How is this guy a professional football player? He seems to have none of the passion and charisma necessary to be pro, let alone a pro QB.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad he's gone.

It really wasn't directed at him personally, it was more emotional overflow from all of the losing.

He should have slept on that email. Live and learn.

All DA has to do is browse this board for a few minutes to know that he was right on with his comments.

The vehemence of some of you is laughable. This guy led (albeit briefly) one of the most prolific browns offenses in our history.

I hope he tears it up elsewhere, and the majority of you can eat the shit that you have spewed all over this board during his tenure.

BTW, my initial thoughts were the same as Alo's. The complaints are valid, although the generalizations are not.

Though I was pretty surprised to hear about the fans cheering when he injured himself, I think it's kind of wrong to label an entire fanbase on that fact. Good Riddance Derek. I will be surprised if he starts for any other franchise in the NFL.

Thats a hell of a way to make a entrance....

Welcome aboard. Keep your head low and jab as much as possible. They throw haymakers, which are very slow... Kill em with your speed kid.

Derek Anderson is the one QB I'm not worried about coming back and biting Browns fans in the ass. Unless he goes to a team where he has 5-7 seconds to throw the ball and recievers that lay out every play to catch the ball.

We here at the Browns Board understand your concern but wish for you to sit in that corner, on that chair. No, not that one. *That* one.

If you'll look to your left, you will see 2009 issues of Men's Style. The shipping address is redacted because they aren't actually ours; we stole them on our way out of The Browns Board. It's illegal, but let's be frank: they didn't really want them anyway.

Oh, but where are my manners? I'm Frank. I make hot sauce. I would offer you some of my wares, but that's probably not good waiting room form; you know, not having any nearby food and whatnot. After all, your mouth would be on fire before you got called back for a checkup, and there would not be a damn thing you could do about it. Just imagine, sitting in the waiting room, knowing that you couldn't leave, lest you be called while you're gone, forced to pay a ridiculous fine and not getting your appointment. No, you're forced to sit there, in that chair, with only out-of-date style magazines to distract you from the mind-numbing pain that sears you, rending you unwhole. Because as you sit there, you know that the doctor won't come. You run for the door, but you see it's been locked. Everyone here is out to get you. And the only relief is more hot sauce.

Welcome to Barking Hard.

Too bad he couldn't lead a prolific offense against any team that was ranked 15th or higher defensively.

19 of his 29 TD's in 2007 came against teams that drafted (or would have had they not traded the pick) in the top 9 of the 2008 NFL Draft. Against teams that had a top 15 defense, he threw majority of his INT's, and then blew up in the 2nd half of 2007 helping us to NOT make the playoffs.

The Derek Anderson hate is quite warranted.
