Browns Deshaun Watson - Football Talk

Zegura saying from what he knows, this isn't an IR situation. It's more about having him get confidence in his shoulder.
Also says Brissett acquisition is unlikely because the Commanders would rake us over the coals for it.
----
Addendum: And Joe Thomas added, assuming he's healthy and it's a mental "trust the shoulder" thing, you just have to play him, and it'll eventually click, in-game. You can't practice and rest your way out of a mental barrier. You have to push through it. You have to force it.

Heard an interesting take yesterday on Watson. Is it possible with all the off field stuff and pressure of the contract that’s it’s weighing on him heavy.

Mental health is real and can really fuck with you!

I've heard that too, but I don't know if it's speculation, BS or if there's some truth to it.

He played well in that last game before getting hurt. We saw it. Next game he got hurt and we had a bye. Then he couldn't play. Last week he started but looked like he wasn't physically able to do the job. That's what I saw and because of that I think he needs to get back to 100% recovered from his rotator cuff injury before speculating on his mental health.

KS shut him down. He said he has to make those tough decisions and it's what he chose to do. Watson might be recovered, and KS erred on the side of caution and that's the long and short of his injury and he'll be fine come Sunday, if only a bit rusty. Again.

Just wonder if the shoulder adds insult to injury, pun intended.

The pressure of having that contract and majority of the NFL crowd thinking you don’t deserve it must be harrowing!

Then top it off with a self inflicted injury after starting to find a rhythm!

Clearly all speculation but I know it would weigh on many, myself included!

Personally, I think it's 90% mental and 10% shoulder ... and I'm not saying that in a negative way, but from what I've read, the microtear ended up being a clinical diagnosis (meaning multiple MRI's were fine) ... which happens in medicine, but it also means it's as minor as it gets from a structural standpoint.

Dude has been through a lot, self inflicted or not. A lot is a lot.

"The Browns will receive Watson and a 2024 sixth-round draft choice (which was originally a fifth-round pick), while the Texans will receive a 2022 first-round pick (No. 13 overall), 2023 and 2024 first-round picks, a 2022 fourth-round choice (No. 107), a third-round pick in 2023 and a fourth-round pick in 2024. The 2022 fourth-rounder was an addition to what was previously reported.
Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, general manager Andrew Berry and coach Kevin Stefanski all released statements as part of Sunday's announcement, explaining their "evaluation process" of Watson before making the trade and expressing confidence in him as the face of the franchise moving forward.
"We spent a tremendous amount of time exploring and investigating the opportunity to trade for Deshaun Watson," the Haslams said. "We are acutely aware and empathetic to the highly personal sentiments expressed about this decision. Our team's comprehensive evaluation process was of utmost importance due to the sensitive nature of his situation and the complex factors involved. We also understand there are still some legal proceedings that are ongoing and we will respect due process.
"It was pivotal that we, along with Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski, meet with Deshaun to have a straightforward dialogue, discuss our priorities, and hear directly from him on how he wants to approach his career on and off the field. He was humble, sincere, and candid. In our conversations, Deshaun detailed his commitment to leading our team; he understands and embraces the hard work needed to build his name both in the community and on the field. Those in-depth conversations, the extensive evaluation process, his dedication to being a great teammate and devotion to helping others within the NFL, within the community, and through his charitable initiatives provided the foundation for us to pursue Deshaun."

So far, a much greater disaster than the Johnny Football pick.

For the life of me, I dont believe you give 250millllllllllion dollars to a QB because he is a 'great team mate' and because he 'helps others in the nfl and the community'.
The fuck does it matter if he's humble, sincere (how do you know?) or candid (what even is that?)
Wouldn't you give that to someone who can... mostly... play quarterback really well?
I mean, for enough money I can 'attaboy' real well and pour soup into some bum's cup real accurate too.
If I had to guess, Haslam got rich through luck.
