It's time to turn the page and begin the hunt for a new QB. #Browns

Sorry player fans. It's time. Baker Mayfield is an average NFL QB, a future journeyman ...and it's time to look at our options. There are only two QBs in the NFL worse than Baker Mayfield in the 4th quarter. We routinely finish in the bottom half in almost every meaningful passing category. There is nothing at all special about him. I used to think he had an elite arm, but a lot of QBs can throw the ball hard. He can certainly throw it, but how well does he pass it really? High, hard, and behind. Rinse and repeat. A large percentage of his completions go that route as well. He has every single weakness he had coming out of college. Nothing at all has improved. In the NFL he isn't chucking up prayers to NFL caliber WRs being covered by guys who are now checking out your groceries. Baker Mayfield is the 4th best QB in the AFC North. Out of 4 teams.

Last place in the division. Most in here predicted outlandish success this season. 12 wins? 14? Maybe more. This blow-hard thought we would likely have less wins than last season, simply due to a historically easy schedule in 2020. The Browns just lost to a team with no kicker, and a fat QB who likely has lower back problems, and runs about as fast as an arthritic sloth. People are now starting to look for new excuses. The new coach is holding the team back. The WRs drop the ball too much. Mean fans are hurting Emily Mayfield's feelings and it's having an effect on Baker's play. The truth is, there's a bottleneck at the QB position. We have a Superbowl caliber roster, and a QB that is limiting what we can do with it. Baker Mayfield is the best QB we have had in twenty years ....and people are desperate to defend him. I get it.

Against the Steelers on Sunday we witnessed something we try really hard to ignore. Baker throwing high and hard the majority of the game. While throwing from the pocket, Baker not only can't see most of the field, but he throws his trademark bullets high enough to get over the defenders standing between he and his receiver. This just doesn't work, as the trajectory of these bullets leave them high and often behind his mark. A difficult ask of WRs, TEs, and RBs. You'll have player fans on twitter showing slow motion replays of a ball going through Hooper's hand, and calling anyone who dares criticize Baker a "mouth breather", but in reality Hooper was at the top of his jump, arms outstretched to the max, trying to reel in a high, hard, and behind football. Could have easily been a walk in touchdown instead... a bad pass. A QB could normally avoid this by putting some touch on the ball, a little arc, or air under it ....but Baker doesn't seem to have that gear.

Mayfield throughout his entire career has made a cottage industry of rolling to his right. It seems to be the one thing he is great at. The problem is, when you are a one-trick pony, other teams game-plan to take that trick away from you. Baker has rolled right and attempted to pass a total of 6 times this year. Think about that in relation to each year prior. Teams have forced Baker into the pocket, the Steelers literally dared the Browns to pass practically the entire game. How is it working out?

Fourth quarter, and another chance to win a game. Most of us knew what was going to happen didn't we? We have held onto hope, praying that the light would go on, that Baker would make wholesale changes, and he would become the Browns franchise QB ...someone we could count on to put the team on his back and lead us to victory with the game on the line. What we have got in reality is a QB that is 33 of 62, with 4 TDs and 5 INTS. Sam Darnold is the only QB as bad as Mayfield with the game on the line since 2018. Mayfield's passing rating with the game on the line is 61.3 and the Browns are 3-11 in these scenarios.

Kevin Stefanski was hired to reign in Mayfield's erratic tendencies. Stefanski's offense tends to turn average QBs into statistical wonders, (Case Keenum) and perhaps limit some players at certain positions, like a downfield QB and burner WR for example. Some argue that Stefanski has taken Mayfield's gunslinger aura away from him, which while true is also the reason why Baker has become far less prone to interceptions. The dink and dunk offense with numerous screens and TE heavy route trees certainly makes a QB look good on paper at times ...but who is Baker Mayfield without the ability to roll out on play action and plant bombs down the field? Certainly these are often 50/50 bombs, but they do add to what an opposing defense has to worry about. Mayfield has 10 completions of 20 or more yards this season ...20th in the league. Recall Stefon Diggs having the same issue that OBJ is currently having in the Stefanski offense. He moved on to the Bills and is back to all-pro form. I suspect OBJ will do the same for some other team.

In short, we have no vertical passing attack, while employing one of the very best WR tandems in the game, and one of the fastest WRs in the league in Schwartz. Did the Browns hire the right coach? If you believe analytics and going by the book is usually right, then yes. If you believe in coaches who base decisions on the ebb and flow of the game, their "gut" as it were, then no. We are the worst team in the league at going for it on 4th down. Analytics got us there.

We could have had Canton native and lifelong Browns fan Josh McDaniels.

So where are we now? A Superbowl caliber roster, with an extremely limited QB, and a coach who can only go by the book, apparently not capable of harnessing whatever "elite" trait Mayfield may have, if he has one at all. Playoffs this season ...not likely. Our Superbowl window is open for only a short while ...without the Browns front office doing something extremely out of character (see, ballsy) like going after a Watson, Wilson, or Rogers ...I don't see us going anywhere.

Haslam needs to stop pussyfooting around. If he wants to prove he's serious, he needs to bring in serious people. Other than Rodgers, who else is out there worth a damn? And dont tell me that dud from Miami. Cousins? Bortles? Fitzmagic? Wilson?
Russell Wilson. We have the Defense to carry him like the Legion of Boom did, you could get him and contend for the SB, or Rodgers. That's pretty much it as far as franchise QB's in the NFL potentially available.

Funny you mention that. I seen that Sean Payton might be available and leaving the Saints. If I were Truckstop Jimmy? I'd shitcan this joke of a front office, hire Payton and go get Aaron Rodgers at whatever cost and chase the Super Bowl while that window is open.
Apparently he's mulling a hiatus, which is being called a "mini-retirement".

Ian Rapoport has reported source say he's unlikely to coach for another team, but more just wants a year away to recharge. He's still under contract with the Saints for three more years.

I don't think he's available. And if he is, the Saints would want too much in a trade. Which, if I remember correct, has happened before. There was a chance he'd be trade but the Saints wanted multiple firsts.

He'd definitely be a better fit for Rodgers than Stefanski. Although, to be fair, I just don't know. Maybe Stefanski would be willing to let a guy like Rodgers help design the offense the way he wants it. I know for certain Rodgers would want nothing to do with the offense as it is currently designed.

This is the exact kind of shit that shows Mayfield is a mental midget. He is responding to trade rumors on social media, denying trade rumors. Can you not just see him sitting at his computer? " Uh uhhhhuhhh, no sir, I am not getting traded.....uh uhhhhh uhhhh?

What a fucking moron. Like the Browns would tell him before they had a trade deal set in place.

I don't see the Browns trading him. Who would we trade for, and what trade capital do the Browns even have to offer a sweet deal if there was someone to steal. Nobody is going to offer a guy who just had surgery and performed like shit, AND stepped into the drama shit pile.

Forget all that, the Browns are just not a dynamic off season mover and shaker. They sign available talent through simple channels, but this is not a team that turns the league on its head with bold moves and changes in direction. Finally, Haslam is a pretty boy. He is not going to admit he was wrong and let a #1 #1 pick go to someone else risking the "what if he really is the second coming" embarrassment......Haslam would rather hold on to the guy, indulge in self-embarassment and tell the media....."we gave it a run, didn't we?"

I expect nothing to happen at the QB position.

That's not what that story is about.

I am going to say it: There is speculation Brady wants to keep playing and wants out of Tampa Bay. He wants his shot with a team built for winning. Cleveland is the perfect fit to permanently cement his legacy as the 2nd greatest QB of all time behind Otto Graham. It would be a fitting end for him to cap his legacy in the house that Otto built.

I am going to say it: There is Speculation that Jennifer Lopez wants to leave her husband and be with an accordion playing lardass Ukrainian who smokes cigars and basically goes on cruises all year long and sits on his balls. It would be a fitting end to her attractive years to cap her career by playing in the house the Ghoolie built.

I sometimes wonder about that Raggy guy.

If we're going delusional, let's go all out.

It's been a brutal week for Baker Mayfield, and part of it has me feeling excited for the future.

I was kind of shocked seeing Browns beat reporters like Daryl Ruiter liking Tweets saying Baker isn't a good quarterback, Dustin Fox going on his rants about Mayfield and trying to start odd twitter beef, Nate Ulrich writing an oddly condescending 1000 word feature criticising Mayfield for saying social media was toxic. It's a watered down version of Grossi calling him a fucking midget. A continuation of how pointed and personal the browns media will often become towards a player. The guy even got criticised for being upset his wife was getting death threats.

I've said it a million time before - the Browns beat is toxic and play a bigger role in the Browns struggles than anyone will give credit for.

But I digress. Meanwhile, Odell heads to the championship game. He's basically become the face of the Rams franchise despite again just turning in a moderate 69 yard performance. Videos of him dancing in the locker room, hugging Tom Brady, smiling ear to ear. Burrow moves on too. All of which is compared to Mayfield. Juxtaposed against him not being good enough. With every game Allen plays, it's what could have been. It seems everywhere we look, success is no longer independent to Baker Mayfield. Everyone who does something well is just another reason to point back at number 6.

You'd be forgiven for thinking Mayfield was actually the worst quarterback in the class. It's weird how little is mentioned about the Giants, Jets, Broncos and Colts passing on Allen when their quarterback woes are far worse than ours. Mayfield isn't good enough, but Denver passing on Allen because Drew Lock was developing nicely perhaps lacks the required drama.

Even Colin Cowherd is having the time of his life, and he wanted the Browns to take Darnold. Mike Tannenbaum is ripping in - the guy who gave up a first and second for Mark Sanchez and a 4th for Tim Tebow. He also grabbed Kellen Clemens in the second round, who had less career touchdowns than Mayfield had this season.

It still irks me how heavily criticised he has been during a season in which he was carrying a severe injury. Typically we burn the film on an injured player because it isn't a realistic snapshot of who they are. With Baker, on the other hand, it's become his predominant film. It's become more important than the healthy film. It's resulted in people lining up with proposals for guys like Jimmy G and Derek Carr who themselves have consistently been less productive than Mayfield.

Even with the Odell narrative, it's how he plays now that he's with an elite quarterback so that's the diffeence. An elite quarterback who is having a career year as an 11-year veteran and was less productive at the same point in his career when compared to Mayfield. In his first 10 years, Stafford threw more than 30 TDs on the year just twice. His overall career prior to the Rams was very Mayfield-esque and he had Megatron instead of a pandemic.

And, with any luck, that narrative can be a positive.

Mayfield needs a catalyst. He has issues he needs to work on and I wasn't seeing enough improvement for my liking. Most notably his footwork and his mechanics. He needs to develop a better understanding of the coverages he's seeing so he can feel more confident in identifying mismatches and attacking it early. He needs to be more confident in the playbook - too many times he had the read but double-clutched it. These are all issues he can work on this offseason, and I hope he takes that gut check and it lights a fire.

I don't think I've ever seen someone go from being a hero to a zero so quickly. As I've said before, nobody in the NFL was more criticised than Mayfield this year and another player literally killed someone. How he responds to this will be important, and it should also be exciting for him because the bar couldn't be set any lower.

If the Browns add some talent around him and he comes back a man possessed, next year could be a lot of fun.

It is impossible it is the "dumbest fucking thing anyone has ever posted" considering your trailer park dwelling, welfare check living morbidly obese Steeler fan ass is still posting your usual retardation, a two decades tradition. The only thing missing is that HIV positive Steeler cumguzzler Richard Balestra crawling out of your fat, shit covered ass with his own idiocy.

People said the same thing about Brees going to New Orleans, Manning in Denver ect. You offer him a large contract and guarantee you'll upgrade the WR's. You don't think Brady in his Bill Belichump hate wouldn't love to go win the Super Bowl for the team Billy B abysmally failed at? Come on, a little common sense.

More fuckery and buffonery comin' down the pike again:

Greg Newsome also quote tweeted Fox as well, saying not to be a prisoner of the moment and the disrespect was noted. I love Carly tweeting that. Carly and Emily Mayfield are good friends, and Wyatt has been a vocal supporter of Baker.

It's just going too far. I'd be fired from my job if I tweeted about the people I cover the way some Cleveland media tweet about Mayfield. It's just a really weird and unique approach to the beat. No other NFL beat reporter to a specific team is so outwardly hostile towards the team's players, and this has been happening for years. As I've mentioned, we recently had a number of former quarterbacks speak out against it.

Browns beat media wield an insane amount of power and they regularly and consistently flaunt it with personal attacks, antagonism of players and fans, and very slanted angles, wording and headlines. Tony Grossi's hot mic moment wasn't an outlier, it was a peek behind the curtain.

I'll bet Fox won't get snarky with Mrs Teller.

Id love to have Rodgers in Cleveland. However he may not be a good fit. He is not a yes man so the Laptop, Berry and Stefanski would have to swallow a little pride on occasion. Like every day....

I keep forgetting to mention this every time the Aaron Rodgers thoughts come rolling in, so I'll just quote this and rehash it.

Browns OC is Alex Van Pelt, who Rodgers was once very publicly annoyed when AVP was not retained as the Packers' QB coach.

Rodgers said this in 2018:

"Well, my quarterback coach didn't get retained," Rodgers said when asked for specifics. "I thought that was an interesting change, really without consulting me. There's a close connection between quarterback and quarterback coach, and that was an interesting decision."

In his most recent interview on the Pat McAfee show, Rodgers said one thing he has ruled out is he won't retire only to come back in a year. When he hangs up the cleats, he is going to hang them up for good. So he's going to take some time as to not make an emotional decision, and decide what his next move will be before free agency.

I think it's safe to say he will part ways with the Packers. They're in cap hell and facing having to move on from some big names. They're, essentially, headed in to a rebuild. A guy like Aaron Rodgers make a rebuild less of a rebuild. More a re-stocking. But he might just not want to be part of that.

Who knows what will happen, but I do wonder if AVP will pick up the phone and try to sell Rodgers on making a switch to Cleveland.

Holy shit that IS interesting. Rodgers needs to be reminded of that relentlessly.

As far as Fox goes, there are three decent sports personalities in Cleveland, the rest are absolute trash. Fox is one of the good ones. He is not a journalist. Someone tweeted at him saying he bet he would never tell Baker to his face that he didn't think he was good enough. Fox responded saying he absolutely would have no problem doing so and tagged Baker. Of course Fox had been threatened, doxxed, canceled for the 24 hours prior because he dared to say we need to trade for a better QB after watching playoffs. Baker bros are a joke. Team over player.

Mayfield brought much of this on himself. I blasted him the other day for chiming in for those who said he was being traded. Yesterday or maybe it was today, he acknowledged that he needs to back away from social media.

I agree with you that this must of been a tough week for him, I have to imagine that he feel like he doesn't have a friend in the world. No matter how much you are paid, knives cut. How much better this would have been all the way around if ShitMyPantski was wise enough to see the kid struggling, and hurt, and pull him, get him fixed, let the storms blow over and reboot in 2022. Fans may have been let down, but the fan base would not have gotten divided into what is now a civil war.

As I see it there are some obstacles that my just be too high for Mayfield to overcome. I don't think ShitMyPantsky will create an offense that suits Mayfield. I honestly think some players are just not going to be enthused abut him leading the team. Finally, he has a savior complex and when things go wrong, he doesn't look to the team, but he looks only to himself...he winds up trying to hard. I don't see him changing.

We will see.
