Browns The 2025 hunt for a QB

It sucks, but King is right. Who here is all in for tank year 2025?
sarcastic sarcasm GIF

Former professional NFL QB Shaun King nails it. Neither of the top 2 QBs in this year's draft are worth drafting in the 1st round. We trade Garrett, amass picks, reshape our roster and then draft one of the stud QBs in next year class. Drafting a sub-par QB at 2 because you are desperate is malpractice.

What a bunch of bs. What the fuck makes that guy have a valuable opinion on anything.

• Ward beat Bernie’s single season total yards mark. He’s #1 all time there now
• Ward beat Walsh’s single season passing TD record. He’s #1 now.
• Ward now has the highest single season completion % of any Miami QB. #1 again.

But not worth considering? Rubbish.

We’ve tanked intentionally & accidentally. It’s yet to work.

Just keep taking swings at the plate, at QB.

Ward at least has some real talent. It would be hard to pass if he was there at 2.

That being said, I'll be relieved if we do.

The more ammo we have for the '26 Draft the better. Give us a crack at a true blue-chip QB, and the hope that heads will roll before that draft occurs so that someone with football instincts is spending all of our trauma picks.

As far as King goes ...being a former NFL QB I assume he knows what he is looking at. More so than a guy who thought Lamar Jackson was a WR at best, or a fantasy football guru.

I'd like to take as much ammo away from this front office as possible by trading for '26 draft picks. Make it through one more horrible season before firing everyone and hiring some football people to run the '26 draft.

Well... perhaps. He is an alpha stud. But I'm really fine with us giving Ward, Sanders, or Howard the reigns next season.

Howard is a dud. You're basically fine with giving a guy who is old, doesn't hit tight windows, and doesn't use the middle of the field (two things very important in the Stefanski offense) the reigns? Are you taking crazy pills?

It's Sanders, Ward or Nobody. If the Berry does the absolute dumbest thing he can do and pass on a QB at 2, then 1)we should march on Berea and burn the entire mother fucker down 2) at the very least riot for real and tar and feather the dumb fuck 3) take McCord later in the draft. He is a great fit for the Stefanski offense and a much better QB prospect than Howard or Dart.

Start at 27:00. Good break downs of Sanders and Ward.

Zegura says what the smart folks already knew - the gap between Sanders/Ward and QB3 in this draft is HUGE. HUGE. He also said both QB's have franchise, star potential.

Shedeur break down 30:30

It would be so Browns. People would laugh out loud at us.

The most QB-needy franchise of the century, literally, passes on a QB because they “know” these two aren’t worth their time, and instead, take a d-end or some such. One QB who has broken the records of Bernie Kosar, and the other just because of his dad.

Pffft on that. Just take the quarterback. Frankly, AB has to take a QB. It’s the only shot he has at saving his job. He almost needs the CJ Stroud / Jaydon Daniels of this draft class.

And if the selected QB doesn’t work out, nobody can reasonably say, if we win 3 again, “see, if we had drafted the DE, we would have won 10 games”.

Just did it. Thanks.

Zegura has put a lot of thought into it. And I like the way he isn’t taking sides on Ward vs Sanders. He may have a favorite, which seems to be Sanders, but really likes Ward as well.

My biggest take aways I didn’t know about …

1) Never ever lobbies for a flag
2) Gets up w/o complaint after getting hit constantly. No drama.
3) More of a move the sticks runner vs a “break one” QB. More like Mahomes than Lamar in this regard.
4) Often makes the first 1 or 2 rushers miss, and they’re often unblocked free-runners.

FTR - The next day Zegura on CBD, both Zegura and Beau clearly say that Sanders is their #1 for Cleveland.

No, that's if the Browns don't want to take Sanders or Ward at #2. I wouldn't be against it if that's how they evaluate Sanders and Ward. Come on, dude, you've been advocating we tank next season. Here you go. Trade down and get more picks, take Howard in the 4th, bring in Daniel Jones, see what Howard can do. If we suck, we're set up for the next draft to get whichever QB we want. If Howard ends up looking great -- Booyah! And were set up for a huge draft next season too.

Unlike you, though, I'm also fine with the Browns going all-in on Sanders or Ward.

Big decisions with tons of ramifications. We all know how the last few big decisions went.

Other things I’m learning

5) Has only missed 1 game in his high school + college career.
6) Deion says he doesn’t have to coach him on what to say. He just knows.
7) Deion has constantly preached to his kids about the trappings of life. Parties. Women. Etc.
8) Has a high release-point throwing motion and ball trajectory

No, I'm advocating taking McCord, not Howard. Again, Howard isn't good at the basic things this offense requires. McCord is. If you are going bargain shopping for a QB (which is a losing strategy) then you take McCord, not Howard.

But again, there are 2 really good QB's in this draft and we have pick #2. So there is no reason...none...that we don't come away with one of the 2 QB's. Unless of course, this FO is completely incompetent.

I like McCord, but I don't think he's athletic enough to play QB in the NFL. Howard is. But I do think it's as close to 100% as it can be that we take whichever QB is there at #2.

Joe Flacco, Tom Brady, Eli and Payton Manning, Bernie Kosar, etc.. say hi. McCord is just as athletic as every one of them.

It's a different league. And McCord is no Manning or Brady, though he does remind me a little of Kosar, the quirky delivery and all. He does throw on time and throws people open at times. Honestly, if the Browns think he can be the man, I'd support him 100%.
