Watson's pro bowls were mentioned when he returned and mentioned by various sports talk show folks. With Watson, until he balls out for the year, it's a tough go for who ever is broadcasting the game. Because of what he did or did not do off the field who ever is covering the game is in a position where no matter what they say about him their is one side or another that's gonna bitch. They don't talk about the off the field or simply perceived as getting too much praise and forgetting what he did/didn't do that there will be a large vocal group making noise and hurting the bottom line. If they lean in to the off the field too much or perceived too much and are not getting giving him his flowers there will be a different large group up in arms and hurting the bottom line. It's a shit shoe until the play on the field over the full season (or close to it) is such that there is no doubt that the praise and focus to just the play are deserved which will minimize the vocal number of folks who still want/are offended by the off the field stuff (become white noise vocally and business impact). As well as the continued passage of time.
The best analogies I can think of are Vick, Ray Lewis, and Jamal Lewis. Each one when they returned from off the field transgressions there folks upset about focus being on the off the field or being on the field. But once their play over the course of that season was such balling out the desire/complaint that the off the field is being washed away becomes smaller. The problem trying to draw any analogies is that social media exists at a level it did not (or not at all) for past similar circumstances.
For the Rodgers comment, I don't know what shows you have been watching or just seeing snippets of, but I haven't seen anyone giving him credit for or much of comments that Wilson has improved. The only thing I saw, heard, or red is about the one pass by Wilson where Rodgers was apparently called that play.
Not sure why during the game broadcast you expected them to be giving Watson for. Rodgers is the bigger/better story from a draw eyes/dollars that Watson is at the moment. And 4 time pro bowler is a bit different that 4 time league MVP, SB MVP, SB winner, 10 time pro bowler, and 4 time first team all pro. Watson even without the off the field stuff would be in the shade when next to Rodgers at this stage of eaches career.
For what it's worth with Watson or pretty much any other player in any sport, when I turn on the game I don't want to see/here just about anything regarding their off the field lives. I tuned in to watch the game.
