It's time to turn the page and begin the hunt for a new QB. #Browns

Sorry player fans. It's time. Baker Mayfield is an average NFL QB, a future journeyman ...and it's time to look at our options. There are only two QBs in the NFL worse than Baker Mayfield in the 4th quarter. We routinely finish in the bottom half in almost every meaningful passing category. There is nothing at all special about him. I used to think he had an elite arm, but a lot of QBs can throw the ball hard. He can certainly throw it, but how well does he pass it really? High, hard, and behind. Rinse and repeat. A large percentage of his completions go that route as well. He has every single weakness he had coming out of college. Nothing at all has improved. In the NFL he isn't chucking up prayers to NFL caliber WRs being covered by guys who are now checking out your groceries. Baker Mayfield is the 4th best QB in the AFC North. Out of 4 teams.

Last place in the division. Most in here predicted outlandish success this season. 12 wins? 14? Maybe more. This blow-hard thought we would likely have less wins than last season, simply due to a historically easy schedule in 2020. The Browns just lost to a team with no kicker, and a fat QB who likely has lower back problems, and runs about as fast as an arthritic sloth. People are now starting to look for new excuses. The new coach is holding the team back. The WRs drop the ball too much. Mean fans are hurting Emily Mayfield's feelings and it's having an effect on Baker's play. The truth is, there's a bottleneck at the QB position. We have a Superbowl caliber roster, and a QB that is limiting what we can do with it. Baker Mayfield is the best QB we have had in twenty years ....and people are desperate to defend him. I get it.

Against the Steelers on Sunday we witnessed something we try really hard to ignore. Baker throwing high and hard the majority of the game. While throwing from the pocket, Baker not only can't see most of the field, but he throws his trademark bullets high enough to get over the defenders standing between he and his receiver. This just doesn't work, as the trajectory of these bullets leave them high and often behind his mark. A difficult ask of WRs, TEs, and RBs. You'll have player fans on twitter showing slow motion replays of a ball going through Hooper's hand, and calling anyone who dares criticize Baker a "mouth breather", but in reality Hooper was at the top of his jump, arms outstretched to the max, trying to reel in a high, hard, and behind football. Could have easily been a walk in touchdown instead... a bad pass. A QB could normally avoid this by putting some touch on the ball, a little arc, or air under it ....but Baker doesn't seem to have that gear.

Mayfield throughout his entire career has made a cottage industry of rolling to his right. It seems to be the one thing he is great at. The problem is, when you are a one-trick pony, other teams game-plan to take that trick away from you. Baker has rolled right and attempted to pass a total of 6 times this year. Think about that in relation to each year prior. Teams have forced Baker into the pocket, the Steelers literally dared the Browns to pass practically the entire game. How is it working out?

Fourth quarter, and another chance to win a game. Most of us knew what was going to happen didn't we? We have held onto hope, praying that the light would go on, that Baker would make wholesale changes, and he would become the Browns franchise QB ...someone we could count on to put the team on his back and lead us to victory with the game on the line. What we have got in reality is a QB that is 33 of 62, with 4 TDs and 5 INTS. Sam Darnold is the only QB as bad as Mayfield with the game on the line since 2018. Mayfield's passing rating with the game on the line is 61.3 and the Browns are 3-11 in these scenarios.

Kevin Stefanski was hired to reign in Mayfield's erratic tendencies. Stefanski's offense tends to turn average QBs into statistical wonders, (Case Keenum) and perhaps limit some players at certain positions, like a downfield QB and burner WR for example. Some argue that Stefanski has taken Mayfield's gunslinger aura away from him, which while true is also the reason why Baker has become far less prone to interceptions. The dink and dunk offense with numerous screens and TE heavy route trees certainly makes a QB look good on paper at times ...but who is Baker Mayfield without the ability to roll out on play action and plant bombs down the field? Certainly these are often 50/50 bombs, but they do add to what an opposing defense has to worry about. Mayfield has 10 completions of 20 or more yards this season ...20th in the league. Recall Stefon Diggs having the same issue that OBJ is currently having in the Stefanski offense. He moved on to the Bills and is back to all-pro form. I suspect OBJ will do the same for some other team.

In short, we have no vertical passing attack, while employing one of the very best WR tandems in the game, and one of the fastest WRs in the league in Schwartz. Did the Browns hire the right coach? If you believe analytics and going by the book is usually right, then yes. If you believe in coaches who base decisions on the ebb and flow of the game, their "gut" as it were, then no. We are the worst team in the league at going for it on 4th down. Analytics got us there.

We could have had Canton native and lifelong Browns fan Josh McDaniels.

So where are we now? A Superbowl caliber roster, with an extremely limited QB, and a coach who can only go by the book, apparently not capable of harnessing whatever "elite" trait Mayfield may have, if he has one at all. Playoffs this season ...not likely. Our Superbowl window is open for only a short while ...without the Browns front office doing something extremely out of character (see, ballsy) like going after a Watson, Wilson, or Rogers ...I don't see us going anywhere.

Watson could easily turn this BS around and he can play the victim role. There would be some support from Browns players I'm sure not to mention league wide support. Not saying it would be good, but I could see him playing the victim role and rallying the team together around him being the victim.
Watson could also turn the Browns around as well. We finished below .500 last year. Watson is a better qb than what we’ve been stuck with the last couple years. There is no disputing that. The not arguments I’ve heard countering that is criticism of the ones pointing that out by a few disgruntled so-called fans who never bring a valid argument to the table.

This thread is still alive and well. I think a few things still remain.

  • Whether it is his high cost of $18.8 million, his off field bullshit, or his actual performance, all that we can still have a mosh pit argument about, in the coming few days we will likely find out. To say this is not the weirdest fucking thing to ever go down in Brownstown would be ignoring reality. The revelation, at least to me will be most satisfying than learning where Hoffa is buried.

  • The debate of "Now SHitMyPantski can't blame Mayfield", or "it's all on ShitmyPantski now" I don't think is valid. 2021 is gone. That team doesn't exist any more. 2022 will have a lot of new changes and the season will hold who the fuck knows what? Injuries, bad calls, suspensions, and more could find even the best coach suffering a shit season. This business of "now we will see" is horseshit. Stefanski must be judged on the totality all of his performances, even the 2021 shit season. I don't give a shit about 2021. It is 2022, and I want to see the guy impress the hell out of us.

  • My hope is that the players and everyone else involved in the Browns organization sees first hand just how fucking cancerous social media participation is. The self-destructive results of Johnny Depp's latest horseshit is even a better example than Baker Mayfield's antics of what happens when public figures change their focus from performing their work, and focus instead on politics, social media and personal agendas. These people need to just shut the fuck up and play football.
My personal bet (if I turn out to be full of shit, it won't be the first time). I believe saving Mayfield's $18.8 million is the biggest factor in why he doesn't have a team right now. Berry and company can't be blamed for this one, and really if we are being fair, if we were a GM in need of a QB, we too, would wait until the Browns were in the worst possible situation with Baker before making a play for him.

Regarding, "is it his level of play that has him sitting without a deal?" I have to think that really it does come into play at least from the standpoint teams who may want him are saying to themselves "at the right price, we will take a shot, but if someone sneaks a deal and we miss out, ah, no biggie because the guy is not really a guarantee, but instead maybe a good gamble at the right deal.

I think Mayfield will have a home before Saturday. Let's watch the show!

I agree with most all of that except the KS part. After last year nobody gave a fuck about KS' COY award and many, maybe you maybe not you, were saying it's a what have you done for me lately type of league and his poor play calling was noted. I think this analytical FO took note and had conversations with KS and likely his coordinators too.

This season is supposed to be a different KS offense than the last two years. Allegedly. If so, he definitely is on the proverbial hotseat because it means KS changed his offense up. We can only speculate why, but this FO and staff collaborate on everything. If KS wasn't nudged in this new direction, he was pushed. Only a couple of people have that clout to do so, and changes have been implemented. Allegedly.

We'll have to wait and see how well this offense runs this year and if it's a new passing game or not. Zegura has said numerous times he thinks the offense will run much more 11 formations and a lot less 13. I hope so. I'm tired of running 13 all the damn time, but I don't know if KS did that because of Baker or because of Chubb and Hunt. This year we will find out.

I was never in that "what have you done for me lately camp. Even great performers have off times. I recognized that there were probably more internal issues than we could possibly know about. My gripes about him were in three areas.

1) He never or rarely called play action when we had the opposing team forced to bite on the run
2) His asshole puckered up when he had a lead. I saw him to be another Marty
3) He refused to sit Mayfield and let Keenum probably win us a few more games. Now, perhaps his hands were tied because Mayfield whined to Jimmy? It just made no sense to play an injured franchise QB.

I have to think that if the Browns have a shitty year in 2022, he may be fired.

I am having my annual physical tomorrow. I am looking forward to the draft, afterward. Later, bro.

I tend to agree with this. But in Browns town crazy things happen and can influence the performance of the team outside of KS doing. I've heard we might draft the WR out of Georgia, Pickens. He supposedly has red flags with respect to his attitude and work ethic. If we take him and he becomes a Dwayne Bowe it could have a negative affect and there aren't any Jarvis Landry types in the WR room. Amari Cooper isn't that guy. He's a Nick Chubb personality. He quietly leads by example for the most part. I think we should be ok outside of the WR room. We have good guys on the DL in Day, MG and Taven Bryan. Not crazy talented, but guys who work hard.

A leader is needed in the WR room to accent Amari Cooper.

Ain't that the truth. Agreed this is a no excuse year. I just hope KS isn't a victim of the noise the franchise keeps injecting. If he does more harm than good, then it's on his shoulders.
My hurdle of competence is that they guy shows balls, the team stops the stupid mistakes, and plays good block and tackle football. Catch the ball, no giving games away with stupid penalties, a better grip on what these asshole players say outside the team. Having the same team show up from week to week. Get that shit down, establish a theme or whatever you want to call it, THEN go win some games. I am sick of this fucking annual overhaul bullshit.

So amazingly, I got another clean bill of health from my Doc. Fuck I need to lose weight but other than that, I have no issues. Knock on wood. You get older, you get less cocky about the future and more thankful for what you have.

I hope Mayfield finds a new home tonight. Most of us would give an appendage if we could play for the Browns, or in the NFL. I don't think Mayfield realizes how blessed he is. I can tell him from experience that his juice is going to be gone in the blink of an eye. I don't have a personalized soft spot for him, but for fuck's sake, everyone deserves to be happy.

I saw a 25 ish kid in a wheelchair going into the doctors office, and shook my head at my own personal care and choices. Zivili Bracha, Zivili Sestre. Live big, everyone.

Every time I see the doctor it's the same thing. "You know you could lose a little weight. That would help." GTFO already!! I'm 5'11" at 195lbs for fuck sake.

I think with more people engaged in the gym the, the idea weight standard has come down, not that there are more fatasses among us than ever before.

Weight for me is a more pressing issue. For 35 years of my life I was a 20 - 25 mile per week runner. I stayed weight appropriate but honestly ate whatever I wanted and paid no attention to diet. Arthritis in m right knee stopped the running, my career changed to one of sitting at my desk at home, and food, which has always been an addiction to me, took over.

Losing 1/2 a person is now mandatory for me. Fuck it, I m just going to eat like skinny man and let time work its magic. If not, I may not be around next draft.

Always some shit.

People always think their shit is worth far more than it is.

I think the Browns fucked themselves hoping to get shinola for their shit. I have to think that the assholes of Berry, Haslam and Mayfield puckered shut when Carolina took Coral.

We are into the shit portion of the draft now where the students from DeVry and Maaco get picked up. It is clear that Berry overvalued Mayfield. I think someone would have taken him for $3 million. So do you think now Mayfield sits on his cunt in 2023 and waits for injury to get him a league near minimum offer? I mean I have never seen a player be more fucked. Mayfield got Baekernicked.

Do you think there is anyone left who wants this cunt?

Do you think Mayfield is going to ShitHisPantkski on social media if he stays unemployed after tomorrow? This would be funny as fuck if it was happening to the Steelers.

It won’t be the first time a quarterback is held onto till an injury makes him have value.

Apart from the distraction of having him on roster by name only, he’s not hurting us apart from $ which is what it is.

I think this draft was played out as intended by the front office. Kills me to say that.

I'm in the same boat brother... 2 back injuries and a broken calf and ankle...

Ask your Doctor about putting you on SemaGlutide. I've had several overweight people who have asked me for help go on it with great results. Curbs hunger and kills off cravings. Combine with some walking and exercise and the weight will consistently come off at a good rate.

Thanks Rags - I really need to do this the conventional way and stop eating like a pig. My real issue is that I keep snacking from 9 pm until I go to bed at 3 AM. I work at the computer a lot. Even when I ran 20 miles a week I ate too much. I was at a proper weight, but if would have eaten reasonably I would have been a rail.

I let this shit happen and I need to change my behavior. If I don't, I have to think I am not going to hold on to my health much longer.

I appreciate the thought, I really do.

Many people struggling with their weight dont know how to regulate it.
It requires proper planning, like restoring a car.

As I said from the beginning. . . the Browns are going to have to flat out release Baker. He gets his 18.8 M and whatever he can get from a new team. In the end, if Watson doesn't have to sit in NFL jail for too long, it's still a win for the Browns, unless Watson gets hurt. Jimmy has plenty of money. Cut him, pay him, and let's move on. No NFL Team will give us a penny for him. Why should they? Just consider it part of the price for getting Watson.

Or the Browns can renegotiate Baker's contract to something more tolerable for them and the rest of the league. It benefits Baker to give up some money right now in order to rebuild his status before going into FA. Will his ego let him do that? IDK.

Ain't happening. I don't think Baker's going to do the Browns any favors. He's getting his 18.8M no matter what happens.
