Browns - Joe Flacco | Page 15 | Barking Hard

Browns Joe Flacco

But some QBs have a lot more limitations to cover up than others. Gets worse when that players ego doesn't align with their play reality..
And a few (Watson) have unlimited talent yet aren't available physically or mentally even though they've been paid the big bucks. Baker's making like 3 million this year and is laying it all out on the line. Watson, to me, seems to have never been all-in here. At least not yet. He still has a chance, an ever shrinking one.

That’s such a weird thing to say?
Did you not watch the second half against the Ravens?

He doesn’t have the personality of a Flacco, few do. But I’ve never gotten the vibes he’s mailing it in.

We know you love Baker. I’m glad that experiment is over.

First there's a big difference between "mailing it in" and not being "all-in." I never said Watson "mailed it in." But he never looked comfortable with the offense, did a lot of running around trying to make things happen and it didn't work, except that one half against the Ravens.

I never loved Baker and never once said Baker was a franchise QB. And I said from the day of the trade that Watson SHOULD be a giant upgrade over Baker. My opinion of Baker has nothing to do with the fact that so far the Watson trade is viewed by most as the worst trade since the Cowboys-Vikings Herschel Walker trade.

By any reasonable measure, Watson has been a complete bust in Cleveland.

But there's always next season for him to make it right.

This is a sobering - and measured - take; one that, as much as it sucks to admit, is hard to disagree with (or look away from).

Saying Watson, on the whole, looked 'uncomfortable in the offense' is generous! He looked downright lost at times. While Flacco somehow just waltzes in and looks and plays as cool as if he was back on the couch. Sure, the offense still looks lost from time to time when Flacco is playing, but it is never Flacco that appears lost. Can't say the same for Deshaun.

And it's not just "looking lost." He threw the ball at the feet (sometimes at best!) of so many wide open receivers this year, it was baffling. Connected on maybe two pretty deep (like, Flacco-deep) balls during his entire run.

I harbor no delusions that the Browns would move on from Watson - they're too far invested to even humor the idea all that seriously - but shit, with guys like Russ & Brady (well, at one point anyway) openly stating intentions/desires to play into their mid-forties, who wouldn't think at least a little bit seriously about continuing rolling with Joe Flacco at 39, 40?? I mean, look at what the Broncos just did with Russ. If they think they could negotiate a palatable settlement with Deshaun, who's to say definitively it can't/won't happen?

It’s very possible people have recency bias!

JF 4-1
DW 5-1

Both had moments and mistakes. While one is inactive and the other is playing with house money.

I’m on the JF team right now, worry about the rest when I need too!

Hey, I have recency bias! My doctor says it's totally normal and that something like 8 out of 10 people have it - at least, that's what the most recent data says. 😉

You know AB's smile and fistbumps are just a facade. He is at that same moment contemplating infinite scenarios and calculations - both those including a Deshaun-led football team, and those not. And all others. Forward and back, simultaneously and overlapping.

I can agree both have made mistakes but part of me wants to protest that Flacco's 'moments' are more. . . ahm, moment...ous. . .and also quite a bit more common than Deshaun's. Also tho their mistakes  . . .with Flacco it's like "oh, damn, you just threw what almost might have been a 59 yard completion to Goodwin, but instead they have the ball at their 11 yard line" where with Deshaun it's "oh, OK, that drive's over because you just inexplicably turfed the ball 3 feet in front of a wide open receiver in the flat (over the middle, etc etc)."

Anyway I'll stop and just be grateful I get at least a few more weeks of Joe Flacco serving as the Browns QB interviewed after their games.

The 5-1 is misleading. It includes his one pass (interception) before coming out against the Colts. As well, he was only the difference maker in the Ravens game, and then it was only a half.

You can't deny that the passing game under Flacco has been incredibly effective while the passing game under Watson was nothing short of very bad.

I see it. I have eyes.

I still don't think Watson has suddenly gone to shit either. Goodell fucked him over. He injured his throwing arm rotator cuff and played through it. Then he fractured his shoulder to end his season. Some sort of "noid" bone.

Torn rotator cuff.
Fractured shoulder.
Sounds pretty shitty to me.

Watson was a bad deal that turned out even worse.

The guy has been great everywhere he ever was. I've said before, I don't blame Berry for swinging for the fences. If Watson were right, we'd be headed to the Super Bowl even with the other injuries. But he's not the same dude. Not yet. I certainly don't discount his chances of rebounding and playing great next season. I hope he does.

And I was wrong about Flacco. I didn't want anything to do with an ex-Raven. But he's been a breath of fresh air. Gotta love the story.
