The #1 pick is in -- Myles Garrett

I said it last year...with a new D scheme, and nearly 50% of all defensive snaps by rookies or 2nd year players, there was a ton of 'rookie' type mistakes...way more than on a team that has only 1 or 2 rookies playing amongst 8-10 veterans. The rookies had nobody to rely/lean on...and so the mistakes compounded.

The real talent on this team was unrealized due to the mistake plays. I truly believe with this extra year, the added talent, and a DC who DEMANDS respect...this D is going to make exponential improvement. Garrett will be playing alongside Shelton...who will be in his 3rd year. The primary LB's will both have experience. Haden should provide leadership in the secondary. That should pay dividends.

As for the offense...Kessler is going to get enough snaps to be confident in his knowledge of the system. Add in what should be a much improved OL, and WR's with a little experience under their belts and Britt to anchor it....the O should also show improvement.

I think you're spot on that GW's arrival with the addition of two elite talents in MG and JP will change everything this year. Plus the addition of Collins for a full season and Kirksey in a contract year (effectively) means the only big question mark will be the DB's.

But even that will be offset by the pass rush of MG and Ogbah, I think. And if we get ANYTHING from the DT's? Man, watch out. Gonna be fun!

Dama...my wife is from Chicago too...gonna make for an interesting dynamic next year. Not sure if I should root for or against Trubisky. I guess for...but not as good as Kizer/Kessler???

I also don't get your Hue hate. We only know a tiny bit from the outside but it's pretty clear players love and respect him. He must be doing something right.

Dama, your brain must have protected you from the trauma by subduing your memories ...but just about every horribly shitty coach we have had in the past 2 decades was a "players coach". The players loved the hell out of those coaches in spite of the losing. Makes no sense to me. You are losing that bad, somebody better be getting up your ass about it and demanding results. Our past has been ...finally hire a tough coach who demands results, fire him 1 or 2 years later because the divas are complaining about him and replace him with a club med players coach.

This is why I like Williams, he is tough, and his players respect him. As long as we can keep the divas from running the organization, I think Williams could be our future.

Read Silvers article in the other thread. Even though he is a Hue Jackson shill, the article damns him more than celebrates him imo, even if it wasn't intended.

I read all the Silvers/Hue stories I could find including the story back to when Hue was fired from the Raiders. He was evidently friendly with Silver when he was new to head coaching. This was Silvers interpretation of the conversation which may be exactly correct. It says Hue called him for some advice on what direction to go to take a new position. The reason I spent the last 15 years of working with a new company was that the old boss asked me to take a lower position to make room for his newly graduated son. Similar to the power struggle when Davis died. I called an acquaintance, a friend but not a close one, to ask if he had any ideas about a company that would fit. He did help with an idea and I am grateful to him. He was not my buddy and IMO Silvers is not Hue's buddy, just a friend.

Other than that, Silvers' assumes Hue made statements that mean something particular but we have no proof that Hue's statements were correctly interpreted or that Hue was accidentally spilling the beans on any division that were anything except intelligent discussion about what player each of them liked. I also believe Haslam learned learned something from the homeless man telling him to draft "he who must not be named", and stayed out of it.

Go Browns!

Haha, cool. I'm rooting for Trubisky, all the way. I honestly believe it's the best situation for Mitch, the Bears and the Browns. I honestly don't believe he would have thrived here. Too much crap for a local kid to bear. He'd have to be seriously special to handle all that and I just truly doubt that anyone could handle it, let alone a kid who barely played big time college football.

Honestly, this is where Kizer coming in damaged from Kelly also might be beneficial. There are maybe a half-dozen to a dozen schools where playing QB is anything close to the NFL and Notre Dame is one of them. Kizer went through a media and coaching grinder. We'll see what, if anything, it did for him.

Hey, weird question, but are you guys going to be in Chicago on Christmas Eve? Browns at Bears in Chicago and my Chicago family has already bailed. I've called dibs on one of four tickets; they may need buyers for 2 or maybe even all 3 of the remaining. Let me know if you have any interest and I'll let the ticket holders know.

This is an excellent point and you're not wrong about player's coaches failing in Cleveland.

On the other hand, Carroll is doing well as a player's guy. It can work, with the right mix of guys and coach.

But I do agree that it's nice having Williams around, just in case...

On offense ...well let's see what Hue does with it. We have the worlds greatest OL, and a RB that put up very good #'s behind last years OL. If we have competent QB play, 6 wins should be easy ... and going .500 should be achievable. Osweiler is likely going to end up the starter, and should do at least better than we are used to which isn't saying much.

Our young WRs will no doubt improve, as will Devalve.

6 wins shouldn't be asking too much.

I don't think the .550 is out of line. Does anyone else remember we worked ourselves all the way up to Touchdown Jesus and managed to get him hurt too? AND we were still in some games! A little crazy but we don't have lottery tickets here so my lottery ticket is 10 @ 125-1 to win the AFC. I would have gone with the division but my book doesn't have division bet lines.

I didn't get to decide who played but I would have liked to have seen more rookies in the slot.

We also got a new veteran receiver that knows how to run routes so the QB knows where he'll be.
Louis wasn't a bad blocker and great on special teams but I think Payton and Higgins are probably better receivers.

I love Barnidge as a person and his magical season was great. Glad he got paid last year and that the Browns released him early so he could sign somewhere.
I think Njoku has the highest upside of all the draftees. Can't wait to see him in action! We might be able to run twin tight end sets where both TEs can catch or block.

Go Browns!

Or maybe you recognize that the guys you have are doing the best they can and that you just need better players. So what do you do: do you blast the guys for not having the necessary talent to win or do you continue to encourage them to be the best they can be while plotting to replace them with better players as soon as you can? In my opinion, the latter is the more productive path.

Good coaches get the best out of their players. Any player making it to the pros should at least be showing some high school level fundamentals ability.

Ahhh the MDP. A blast from the glory days past....

Here is it guys. The new Browns recipe for QB pressure. GGG takes Garrett and adds Peppers through the gap.

I'm convinced, now more than ever, that Myles is made of better clay than I am, and better clay than his teammates.
