Browns The 2025 hunt for a QB

Damn. Watson at 35th. Jameis at 5th. As long as his trend generally continues, it'd be nice to have Jameis here next year, assuming his agent doesn't want 20 mil for him or something.

I really want to like Carson Beck. Sanders & Ward will be long gone by our 1st pick. Ewers I've just never been a fan of. Strikes me as limited.

Milroe... I just don't see the fit in Stefanski's offense. That goes for Fields as well. Dual Threats with accuracy and processing issues have not worked for this offense so unless the HC wants to completely change his approach, what are we doing? And on Milroe specifically, I don't see Lamar Jackson or Cam Newton. I see something much closer to Anthony Richardson.

And then we get to Beck. As far as his on-field play, there's not much not to like. Would fit like a glove for Stefanski and could be available in the 2nd. But then I see the young man has a series of thirst photos on social media. And then he comes out and says watching football stresses him out. Which... Fine... I get it. I don't like to watch work as well. But from everything I know, from Josh Allen to Tom Brady to Troy Aikman, those guys breathe football. IDK, maybe I'm nitpicking, but man... the intangible vibes with this kid has thrown me off a bit.

Beck is a shittier version of Josh Rosen.

We’re at “find a diamond in the rough” level.

I’d rather follow the Steelers model.

1. Don’t “blow it all up”. Ever.
2. Build the team rather than hope for THE QB
3. Keep coaches as long as you can
4. There are QB’s who just need the stability around them, rather than carrying the mess all by themselves. Find that guy.
5. But unlike the Steelers, continue to spend

Don't care where he is from as it has no relevance to ability.

From what I have seen of him, which is only a couple of games I am not seeing NFL starter. From this scouting report doesn't seems like he would be day one ready and need to sit a year or more. But if going to take a flyer late second or 3rd round, sure why not

If there is any way for Berry & co. to work their cap magic, they should do it. Sam Darnold is clearly the no. 1 QB available this off-season and is the actual shortcut to relevance. The Vikings would be fools to let him go.

A 3rd Round pick, probably Allar would be my #2 option. I wouldn't be against doing both.

As far as how realisitic, I think it is definitely possible. Just depends on the scouting and appetite of the org. If they want Darnold, they will make it happen. Restructure the Watson contract. I don't think he cares as long as he gets his money. Maybe even present him with an out that would make sense for both sides. Watson probably hates Cleveland and the fans, but I doubt he has any strong feelings against the franchise that paid him 230 mil.

If the Vikings surprisingly do pay Darnold what he's worth (probably 40 mil annually at least), the Browns should shift their focus to J.J. McCarthy. Easily clears the top QBs in this Draft. I would imagine we're starting with our 1st and probably a 2nd, since there will be a bidding war. Probably won't get far beyond that, unless another team goes crazy and offers multiple 1sts.

As far as teams in the running, I imagine the Raiders and Giants are out as they will likely be in position to draft Sanders and Ward for the full value of the rookie contract. That leaves the Titans, Browns, Saints, Rams, Steelers. My bet would be on the Rams as they've shown no hesistancy in parting with picks for talent, but I think we're a clear 2nd given how desperately we need a good QB on a rookie contract to get us through the finals years of the Watson contract.

Anyone paying Darnold big money after this one year to me is akin to if someone would have paid Keenam after his one big year in MIN. Or when folks made that mistake with Foles.

The only times teams manage to get a franchise QB is late in their career via FA ala Peyton and Brady. Those are short term solutions. The only other is the DET and LAR trade of Goff for Stafford.
