Browns The 2025 hunt for a QB

Same.
You know when a WR runs a bad route "Daddy" will be posting about it. Players will choose sides and the locker room is fucked. Let the Raiders pick him. Let the Giants pick him. Anybody but us.

Sanders & Ward won't be options. It would require too much to happen in front of us in the Draft ROS. I did find myself thinking maybe we should look into Mac Jones this offseason. 1st Round Pedigree, only 27 next season, even made a Pro Bowl his Rookie SZN. Not a bad reclamation project. I think we're all a little over the Jameis Experience.

Mac Jones is in a completely different station than DTR. Jones is a Heisman Finalist, College Football Champion, 1st Round Pick, Rookie Pro Bowler. DTR was a solid college QB who is just happy he got drafted and gets to be on a NFL Roster. Completely different level.

We can mock Mac Jones or Daniel Jones or Justin Fields, but this is the level of QB we can acquire unless Darnold is available and he'd actually want to be here. We're too low in the Draft to get Sanders or Ward, even if we think they'd be good. And there are no other QBs in the Draft worth a top 10 pick.

You're mixing production as a college player with their NFL production and it's two separate things.
Mac Jones is no better than DTR in the NFL. Jones' draft status means nothing. He's started multiple games and has not impressed. He has a complete NFL scouting report on him already.

DTR has only a few starts. There's a better chance he has improved and now is the time to determine how much he has improved.

DTR has thrown 1 TD to 7 INTs, completing only 51% of his passes. His INT Rate is higher than Jameis Winston.

This doesn't even approach Mac Jones, or really any legitimate professional QB. And we're not even talking about his propensity to get injured whenever he's on the field for too long. We start DTR, he'll be on the bench by halftime.

To be clear, this situation was not fair to DTR. He was not supposed to be anything more than a fun preseason name at this stage of his career. Maybe if we were a more normal football team, he would have had the opportunity to actually develop into his backup ceiling. Unfortunately, life isn't fair.

The point was we know who Mac Jones is. He is a backup. Certainly not worthy of a 1st rd pick. We do not need another backup QB that has played worse every year he's been in the league. A "1st rd pedigree" doesn't mean much, btw. Especially, after being in the league four years.

We have a backup in DTR with only a few starts. We play DTR now and see if we get lucky and he can be our backup.

The stat I didn't see is games started. 46 for Mac Jones and 4 starts for DTR. We do not know what DTR can be whether a backup or not. Even if he gets to start all three games left it's not even 17 games of starts and may not be enough. He could be as good as Jones or better.
