Wow. BDU, I am sorry but what I am getting from you is the 'making it political' side.
What part of a national response to a declared pandemic is not political? I didn't make it political. It just literally is political.
I don't like Trump any more than you do in all likelihood, but this isn't about Trump or him saving face.
I don't know why Trump fans always downplay their affinity for him. I'm assuming just trying to position yourself as being objective, which is essential because objectivity and Trump support just don't go together. At all.
This is about a nation that makes Australia look like a postage stamp, less than 7.5% of our population. That makes helping the unemployed a shit ton easier.
More people to help, but also more tax dollars coming in. We play with billions, you guys play with trillions. Stop trying to use population as an excuse like we somehow magically just have more dollars per citizen. Our nations, relative to populous, are comparatively prosperous.
We bumped ours up, but it is still so low the vast majority of people affected by this turned economy will lose their homes and more...and those individuals will take a long time to recover.
You know the two largest expenditures in the Australian federal budget?
1. Social security and welfare.
2. Health care.
We are the socialists that keep you awake at night. That is our disconnect. I am sorry to hear how many Americans are poised to fall homeless or enter your nation's horrifying level of poverty. Just know that when I'm crass about economic uncertainty, it's because my horrible socialist government won't actually allow something so awful to happen to it's citizens.
I cannot imagine ANYTHING resulting in a "vasty majority" of Australians being so adversely effected.
So yes, you were crass at the very least on disregarding their plight.
At least I didn't literally propose killing people.
As for 'killing grandma and grandpa', that is pure political tripe.
Actually it was a direct fucking quote. BF could not have been more explicit with his suggestion, which has been parroted all over your beloved Faux News.
Nobody is saying sacrifice them.
Which part of "Is protecting the lives of Grandpa and Grandma at all cost worth the cost to society at large? I say no" is taken out of context.
By all means, offer a different interpretation for me to laugh at.
What most are saying is that if THEY are the ones at highest risk, THEY are the ones that should take the additional precautions of isolating in place. Add in that they are also the least likely to take a financial hit (they have retirement and SS benefits for the most part), and it only makes sense.
And what do you know, I laughed.
You're way too fucking intelligent to be pretending that doesn't mean what we all know it means. There is no way to pretty that up or play coy. He's literally suggesting throwing the lambs to the slaughter for the sake of mild economic stability and you know it.
Me and my family are doing our part, but we are lucky. Both my wife and I 'can' work from home...but I am seeing neighbors losing their jobs, losing their businesses, and the psychological impact is bad...I would not be surprised to see a huge bump in suicides in the coming months/years due to the "CURE".
Just keep in mind this is why I'm pissed at your president. You won't be surprised by widespread homelessness and suicides, and you don't want the discussion to be political. Gross. I hope is balls still tastes like Stormy to at least make it palatable when you have to swallow your pride and admit how fucked up your lack of willingness to hold a politician to account in this situation is.
Keep in mind...you even said it...all these measures are simply to 'blunt the spike', and in all likelihood will not reduce the number infected...in fact is actually may INCREASE the likelihood of a second round. Read enough and you will find those willing to state it despite MSM hiding that little nugget by not reporting it.
Those are just words. It has nothing to do with science or common sense. Look at your cases and fatalities since I posted. Look at ours. Look at other nations which quickly took decisive action. The results speak for themselves.
Taking action against the pandemic may increase secondary prevalence but the mainstream media won't report it? You fool. I rescind the previous comment about you being too intelligent for something. That's woefully inaccurate and you fucking know it.
No, the heartless thing is to ignore the financial impact caused by blind reactionism.
Literally nobody is ignoring it. I made it clear that the economy is fucked either way, and now the most important thing is to get this over with as soon as possible so the rebuilding efforts can commence. Pretending everything is fine isn't helping. At all.
This disease will run it's course...it will take lives...and it will eventually be relegated to the 'flu-like' disease that it truly is.
But it isn't a flu-like disease. It is significantly more deadly. Not deadly enough to wipe out the planet, so sure it will pass, but stop trying to undermine what is happening here.
But the financial impacts will destroy far more lives than we will ever be able to quantify....including children.
Guess your wonderful economic manager got exposed. Afterall, our entire disagreement is that I vote fuck the economy, save the people. Your leader votes fuck the people, save the economy. How is that working out? Heh.
