The " Book It " thread!

Dans...

How 'long before'....China didn't even admit it was a thing until late December. Are you also saying France, Italy, Spain, etc...all wasted the chance? Because they are far worse off. So did their corporate greed cause their issues?

As for hoarding, I have 2 kids and we haven't spent more than $200...so I would personally say you had to have gone over and above on your shopping...

This isn't a Trump thing. It is world thing...and even if we did get going 1 or 2 months earlier, we would simply have more tests completed. There is no cure. There is no sure way to stop it. It is called a disease, and it WILL run it's course.

Do your part, stop blaming others, and be safe.

DF,
You know I respect you, anyone who survives Ayer is a
Winner!
Listen, it’s just my wife and I my kids are grown where I
live I can’t go into a grocery store for bread milk and eggs
for less than thirty dollars but that’s neither here nor there

The current republican spin is trying to name this the Wuhan flu
or the Chinese flu, Whatever ,China has over three times the population
than us and we now have double the infection and the most deaths from
this virus of any nation world wide.
I stated earlier the fact that we reported on 3-3-20 nine deaths and Trump
STILL had a big rally on 3-8-20 stating it wasn’t a problem it was contained
and anyone who isn’t a republican was full of shit.

I’m really tired of the term MSM, it is a made up BS battle cry out of the republican
playbook.
Fair and balanced is the other side of the same coin.

There has been a fundamental lack of leadership in trying to
stem the spread and most in the healthcare world are putting
there lives on the line daily to help people through this epidemic
that amount of bravery I give mad respect to and wish them
nothing but the best for what they are doing, that’s the good side
of not just America but the human races compassion for there
fellow man.
By your own admission China came clean in December with what they had
on there hands and I’m sure the CDC and our own intelligence reports had
to have updated Trump daily, he has royally fucked this up- there’s just no
defense for the way this has been handled,ZERO.

I wish everyone the best and hope this doesn’t grow proportionately as stated
today of a US death rate of two to three hundred thousand dead before it’s all
said and done, be safe.

...we now have double the infection and the most deaths from
this virus of any nation world wide.

I wish to correct the above.

At present, we do not have double the number of infections of any other country. We do have the most, but not double the most.

We do not currently have the most deaths. Currently, Italy has the most deaths with 11,591. Spain is next with 7,756. China is third with 3304. We are fourth with 3167. France is fifth with 3024. Iran is sixth with 2757.

Good for you Cliff,

I’ll get back to you in a week THEN we can talk real
statistics.
most of us on this board probably already
know someone who
has tested positive or passed away from this Virus.
Twenty eight days ago we had nine deaths and now
we are over three thousand dead and the rate is
expected to double every three days.

Who could have imagined when Trump campaigned
and said “what have you got to lose?”....
OR
We were going to “win so much we would be sick from it”
Who could have seen this into the future?

China hid their information until it couldn't be hid. They are now hiding it again. There isn't another country with as low a report as them...even the hyper clean S. Korea....with a fraction of the population, is reporting far more new cases than China. I just don't buy it.

Let's get back to the US and the REAL data.

NY didn't have cases for a very long time...had plenty of time to prepare...supposedly have this great "medicare for all" type system...and yet they own 40% of the reported cases and nearly 50% of the deaths. Why?

But those numbers in that single city are being used to justify 75% of the country on lockdown. Hell, even Cali only has 16k cases...and only Washington has more than 200 deaths outside of the 1550 in NY...and you know almost all of it is NYC.

Sorry, but NYC is just like Italy...people living on top of eachother, ignoring the rules, and using public transportation...but WE all have to pay the price for their unpreparedness.

I am not saying what Trump did is perfect. Far from it. But this is NOT his doing.

Hell, New Orleans held Mardi Gras...and now they are tying to blame the disease from that on Trump. You own your own mistakes...and they had every opportunity to shut it down.

I simply dislike misinformation. I don’t know why you persist in giving misinformation. Several days ago, you said we led the world in both infections and deaths. At that time, it was true for infections but not deaths. I corrected it and gave you a link with the updated correct information. But now, you get it wrong again and again I corrected it and again gave you a link with the correct current information. This is a link that you can use in the future to avoid spreading misinformation. There really is no excuse for not checking your facts when the correct information is readily available.

Also, I note that you keep suggesting that you avoid being political while actually being more political than anybody.

At one time, I tried to take the high road with you. I understood that you and I have different points of view but I thought we could be civil and at least agree to disagree. At one time I made a special effort to be respectful of your opinions. Unfortunately, you apparently took my efforts at being respectful as a sign of weakness to be exploited and subsequently took affront to my continued disagreement.

Look, Dan, I am going to explain something to you. My opinions are strongly held and they are subject to change only by a persuasive argument. Ranting about Trump and Republicans in general does not represent a persuasive argument. If my initial show of respect for you and your point of view was taken as weakness and you thought you could change my mind with your political rants, I am sorry. You never had a chance.

But you might as well understand that I would have continued to show respect for you even though you did not return the favor had you not chosen to call me a liar. In my opinion, that was the ultimate insult. You called me a liar merely for saying that I was a Republican. Look, Dan, I think I know what I am and what I am not. And one thing I think I am not is a liar. I go out of my way to check my facts, and if I find I made a mistake, I correct them as quickly as I can. And my opinions are my opinions. Merely because you disagree with them does not make them lies. I believe it is consistent to maintain the position that, politically, I am a Republican while holding generally to a libertarian point of view.

In my opinion, it is what I am and what I represent and I do not appreciate being called a liar for holding that opinion.

It is up to you, show me a little respect and I will return in kind, but it will never be the way it was before. It is a two way street. You can travel on the wrong side if you want.

I don't know, Dawg, I think I am with the President in following the recommendations of Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx. When they were indicating that the models showing worst case scenarios may have been somewhat overblown, my feelings were that the natural cautiousness of people like Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx probably indicated some relaxation might be possible. However, they have now indicated that a current reading of the data and the models based on the data indicate more caution is needed.

Also, while you may have explained New York and New Orleans, what about Michigan as a possible hot spot. The policy needs to be data driven and when the data changes the policy must follow. We will see how it shakes out in the next couple of weeks. Perhaps one of the medications they are trying in the treatment of patients will prove to be effective and that will help in the mitigation. We shall see, but we need to base decisions on the data as it exists. When the data changes, the policy needs to change to correspond.

as of this post US numbers are
Confirmed cases-180909
Deaths-3634

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/26/health/coronavirus-thousand-deaths-thursday/index.html

Congratulations. Dated, but apparently reasonably accurate at the time it was published.

I think it is becoming abundantly clear that people will not follow guidelines, social distance and self quarantine when needed. It isn't just teenagers who are infecting Grandma and Grandpa. Fifteen days of following the guidelines should have identified most of the cases needed for quarantine, but people are cheating. It appears, for example, that wealthy people and perhaps not so wealthy people from New York are traveling to neighboring states and infecting people in said neighboring states.

And forcing people to act responsibly and avoid spreading the contamination is, as Cuomo says, unconstitutional. Apparently we have a right to self destruct.

But even if we wanted to, we couldn't completely shut down. For example, scarcity of test kits to quickly yield tests for the virus is one of the main problems for healthcare professionals right now. Unfortunately, like anything else, they have to be manufactured. They don't appear out of thin air and waving a wand does not work. If you are still manufacturing test kits, among other things, you are not shut down.

Well turn on Fox, don’t be a dumbass!
Cliff,
Now your speculating!, just trying to keep it
light.
There are many staunch republicans who deny
this is an issue, some are in my own family!
Others I know ( who aren’t essential) are told
to work or apply for unemployment!
This is going to keep coming in waves because
people won’t or can’t quarantine themselves.
I really don’t want to be on this part of the board
anymore but this topic didn’t start in politics or
religion,I just got caught up in it as most of us have.

Everyone be safe, do the best you can and stay healthy!!!

Hi Dan, thanks for the well-reasoned and civil post. I almost regret having written my last post. It was so dark and negative, but it was the way I felt at the time, after watching a forklift transport bodies to a refrigerated semi truck in New York City and then a show segment on Rhode Island police stopping cars with New York tags. And this, of course, was after reading an article about Governor Cuomo threatening legal action against Rhode Island for attempting to protect themselves against the infection coming from New York.

I think I feel a little better after watching the briefing which lasted over two hours. I thought Trump was never going to stop answering question and the reporters kept asking them. I think Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx spent about as much time answering questions as Trump and Pence. Trump answered most of the political questions, of course, but he leaned heavily on Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx for the medical questions and there were a lot of those also. The information from the briefing was sobering, but I came away more encouraged from it than at the beginning.

I know posting this is over the top and I will hate myself tomorrow, but I couldn't resist.

Michigan doctors see success in COVID-19 treatment

Tuesday, March 31st 2020
Marcus Zervos, infectious disease doctor for Henry Ford Health System, said they had seen success with hydroxychloroquine therapy in a number of COVID-19 patients. He said those given the drug were able to get off a ventilator and out of the hospital faster.

“The goal of therapy is to take patients that have shortness of breath, compromised respiratory status, that have pneumonia, and by treating them with hydroxychloroquine, prevent them from the complication of progression of infection, ending up in an intensive care unit or ending up on a ventilator," Zervos said.

Zervos said it typically took patients hospitalized with COVID-19 between two and four weeks to recover. He said hydroxychloroquine therapy was reducing that recovery time.

Data showed nationwide, chloroquine orders were up 3000% for the month of March. Hydroxychloroquine orders were up 260%.

As the demand for the medications continued to skyrocket, those who relied on the drugs for other medical conditions said there was a shortage.

Karen Jones from Plainwell said she had been taking the medication to treat her lupus symptoms since 2000. She said for the first time ever, her pharmacy in Kalamazoo was out of her prescription.

Jones’s doctor was able to track down a 30-day supply at a pharmacy in Allegan County. She said she was worried about what would happen when she needed a refill.

FDA Green-Lights Israeli-US Drug for COVID-19 Treatment Trial

“In a previous trial of VIP for ARDS caused by sepsis, seven out of eight patients on mechanical ventilation showed substantial improvement and six ultimately left the hospital alive,” said Prof. Jonathan Javitt, MD, MPH, the CEO of NeuroRx, Inc. and Vice Chairman nominee of Relief.

“Patients on ventilators for COVID-19 have only a 50 percent chance of survival,” Javitt noted in a statement. “If the early results can be replicated in ARDS caused by COVID-19, this treatment could have a major impact both on COVID-19 survival, and on the availability of ventilators for those in desperate need.

Cliff,
It’s words on a screen,I understand where you are
coming from, we’re fine.
MMW,where the hell have you been?
I was starting to worry about you when you hadn’t
posted in here since you were the first to be concerned
enough to start a thread and I dickishly busted your balls
about it,I apologize.
I suggest we all try to not panic and post out of emotion
and keep it to non paranoia BS like my inaccurate figures
that upset Cliff,I get it.
Be well everyone!
