Browns Deshaun Watson - Football Talk

Most folks can't understand just how amazing that completion percentage while having an 8.9 YPA truly is. It's insanely good. Generational good.

Nobody truly knows if any QB can take any team to a Championship. Hell, after 1 year with Mahommes, people thought he would take KC to the championship every year. The reality is it's hard to get to a championship. Really, really hard and no QB can do it by themselves. It takes a team effort from the front office down #44 on the roster. An elite QB certainly increases the odds by a lot...a ton.

What we do know is this - Watson has set nfl records; won a passing yards title; established a record of coming from behind in the 4th quarter; won 2 divison titles in 4 years and went to 3 pro bowls. This is the best QB the Browns have had in some time and arguably the most talented QB the Browns have ever had. Watson has elevated the play of every offense he has ever been on...so there is plenty of reason to be hopeful that he will take Cleveland to our first championship.
I liked your reply, and thought it merited a response. Let's depart from this run-first / pocket passer silliness, because it really is silliness. I supported -Best Players- time to move on thread right off the bat. There is not one credible argument that can be made against signing Watson.

He is without question the most talented QB the Browns have had going back a long time. Nobody, including us, can be described by a label. Watson is a unique human being with a unique set of QB skills. While I would love to see a Browns SB, that is not a factor in determining if Watson is a great QB or not. To extrapolate on your thoughts we should remember that many great GBs never went to the SB.

This is the most fucked up time of the football season. Spring is great and all, but it doesn't supplant the need for Browns news. I think I am going to get drunk and stay that way until draft day, and pray to God in the meantime that someone takes Baker. I have grown to hate this fucking guy.

Here is to a fun draft and a good season. Nobody deserves it more than us.

So you don't consider guys like Marino, Kelly, Rivers, and Moon to name a few as elite NFL QBs? And you consider Flacco, Dilfer, and Johnson as elite QBs?

In the context Ocon and others are using "elite" is about the ability to play the QB position.
This is an excellent reply. As erudite as we "experts" think we are, most of us still get sucked into that stupid "how many rings does he have" mentality that makes Steeler fans so fucking intolerable.

If we are being honest, it was only a few fleeting moments that kept Kosar from being considered elite. A SB appearance would have made his skills known to many more, Instead, in general Conversation his name will elicit a "who?" Who, indeed. The kid was something else. He certainly is better than those three dickheads you mentioned as comparisons.

Ray Narleski is by every metric an elite pitcher, but because he pitched in the shadow of Feller, Wynn, Garcia, and Lemon, even many Indian fans don't even know about this guy. Ted Williams is not elite?

I am really behind this Watson kid. I read a story from some fuckhead who said no matter what Watson does he will never be a Browns, as in one of those guys who is intertwined in the history and community. WTF is that? Honestly, I have had enough of this bullshit (even my own run-first bullshit) condemning this guy, shortchanging him and predicting failure.

Whatever Watson is, he is the best QB prospect taken in 2022. If he has insurmountable shortcomings, then the entire NFL QB line up sucks dick because this guy is at the top of the heap.

I think of this often. All of this Super Bowl aspiration talk is fine, but the only memory we all have of glory days is when Kosar would win a playoff game now and then.

As Tom Hamilton says, if you're unhappy every year when your team doesn't win the championship, then maybe being a sports fan isn't for you.

But Tom the Jets have a SB Win. WTF about that Tom ? LOL

Can the fucker win a game before we crown his ass?
I am not out of your camp either. He has to perform. My point at this point is, we have every reason to be enthusiastic and hopeful. We shit our collective pants when Baker was picked, didn't we? And he hadn't won a fucking game? I will be relieved like a man who just shit for the first time in 2 months once we are done with Baker. I am ready to roll, bro, that's all.

Ah, Kosar gave us a lot more than that. He did after all go, I think, 10 - 4 against the Steelers, and their D was still pretty good then. I remember Chuck Noll saying, about Kosar, and I paraphrase from my ancient brain, you can't blitz this guy. No matter what we threw at him he found an opening.

I suppose we remember the heartbreaks the most, but I would be happy to have SIpe-Kosar level of excitement again. I think Watson WILL deliver the "it ain't over yet" ability that Baker absolutely is devoid of.

Always thought Kosar was underrated. Felt like his peers agreed.
By who ?
I think if he had kept his life together after his playing days he would be a famous talking head today.
Before the elbow injury he was a sure fire future HoFer and likely would have won multiple Super bowls for us.
I think he got all he could out of his very limited athletic ability. put him into Elway's body yep 5-10 SB wins.
Killer instinct, coach on the field, upper echelon IQ, and unconditional love for Cleveland.
Totally agree

That I think is a big no go. Bernie had a quality that was toxic to the network broadcast world which was taking an "I know better" tack. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, and this attitude and not his lack of SBs that kept him out of the broadcast booth.

I agree with the first part but not the Elway body comment. Kosar's flaw for choking late in a game when he had a lead was a turn off for me. The "Drive" is not what beat the Browns. Kosar got the ball first in OT, and for all his supposed brilliance at audibles, he played not to lose, and gave Elway the ball back.

In one of the NFL films on this game, you can see and hear the Denver bench chanting in glee "he is playing not to lose"

Kosar gave his body and soul to the team and he was a part of the Browns fiber. Nobody can argue that. However, he also was not elite. Elway was elite.

The HOF can be a popularity game and Kosar suffered some in the press because he played for under dog, un-sexy Cleveland. But he was never on the same plane as Elway (51K yards passing versus 23K passing), or similar guys.

And again, he definitely did NOT have a killer instinct. He was great at coming from behind, when he had nothing to lose, but too many times he clammed up and didn't close out games when he had late leads.

I gave him kudos for being gutsy and giving us a lot of great times, but he was never on an HOF path.

the IQ shit? Announcers, unable to be taken seriously if they complemented his athleticism, fabricated this "smartest QB in the NFL bullshit". That's all it ever way, bullshit.

Bernie was a great QB for us, but his post NFL reap was really in line with what he sowed.

Donovan said on Red Zone last night that Watson's lawyers reached an agreement with Buzbee that he was not going to depose himself or otherwise testify until after this season. I don't know the exact date offhand. Recently that dirtbag lawyer Buzbee requested Watson to be deposed ignoring their agreement on some level. Watson's lawyers requested the judge rule on whether or not he should testify or wait as previously agreed upon.

Even Donovan was irritated by these events saying Buzbee was being annoying to Watson in order to get him to just settle.

Damn dirtbag lawyer Buzbee.

We are grown men here. he has to Settle this at some point. for alll $$$$ the right reasons. it would be shocking he risk ALL his millions that a jury can award. I thought they had a agreement before the trade to tell the truth, more so after seeing his contract for this season etc

No matter what happens.. Watson is a walking target the rest of his life for his selfish stupidity.... There will always be that stigma.. Did he really rape these women regardless if he did or did not.. He may be smart on the grid iron.. But when it comes to life matters... Not so much... He's a DULLARD for getting himself into this mess...

It’s going to get worse. All by design, hope he doesn’t settle.

it’s going to be bad though.
Hopefully it goes good. We secure an indictment from a jury that isn't scared of BLM riots and the habitual sex offender does years in prison getting treated in the same manner he treated 22 victims.

Rags,

I can see from several of your posts on this ordeal that it really has you upset.

I idolized Jim Brown, as many of us older fans did. He was a god in our house and neighborhood. When he started having women issues and then when he was indicted for rape, I lost some of my zest for him. It was weird because he was our hero, but now he was doing things that my Father always told me a man shouldn't do.

I absolutely understand your passion and anger over Watson's actions, or alleged actions. I respect your character and your feelings and will throw out that for sure society has become desensitized to this class of events. Several things come into play.
  • We are busy and just want to have a SB team
  • We see a lot of false accusations
  • We see a discrepancy in who gets punished and who gets away
  • Since many accusers take money and then disappear, it jades the entire deal
I have to say that my own reaction in these matters is like many, inconsistent. For sure when someone we don't like is accused, we want to see him burn in hell. On the other hand, if the accusations are about someone we like, then we dismiss them.

I am in the camp of hypocrisy bro, for some reason I am not upset with the Watson show. Don't ask me to tell you why, but I am no huge fan one way of another, I am just not upset by this particular ordeal. Again, I am not saying I am not upset that he abused 22 woman, what I am saying is that the entire story is not turning on the gas for me. Go figure.

Punished by the league for being accused?
The world has gone mental.

"Why am I being punished?"
"Lady there said you did something"
"I didnt"
"But she certainly says you did"
"..its a long story, but what she says is incorrect"
"Well... have you seen the people with pitchforks on the marketplace lately?"
"Eh ... Yes... "
"Anywho, being accused is against the rules in my town, and I am the sheriff around here.
One hand chopped of at dawn tomorrow, it is!"
