I would say that that was a pretty quick response. If you disagree, please explain why.

Okay, I suppose I could grant that. It might have been marginally better. However, my understanding is that social distancing is more important to controlling the transmission of the disease and my guess is that people would tend to feel safer behind a mask and would likely have not accepted social distancing as readily.

Here, I completely disagree in both scenarios. Granted, there may have been fewer early deaths but it would have been much more devastating to the economy. The question would have been: what comes next?

The answer would have been: more of the same, because while the testing methodology we had at the time was accurate, it took on average four days to get the results back. There is no way that containment without mitigation would have worked with that testing capability. For testing to work, it must be at least as fast as the virus.

The Abbott Laboratories’ 5-15 minute test was not approved by the FDA until March 28.

This is a game changer because according to Dr. Birx there are already 18,000 Abbott test consoles spread throughout the country for point of care testing. All that is needed are the specific tests for the coronavirus and Abbott is capable of producing over a million of those a week.

Since the coronavirus is so contagious, local health departments in conjunction with the CDC must act aggressively, but this is the game changer that will allow us to reopen the country. Until the development of the Abbott test, we had no chance to prevent one NYC after another without mitigation. Containment was not possible without shutting down huge portions of the economy. However, with it, all that will be required to open the country is for us to mitigate to end the major outbreaks and then containment with point of care testing can take over. Therapeutics will help, but the key is point of care testing (in conjunction with aggressive contact tracing and quarantine, of course).

You just continue to say that the President's response was slow/timid. I give a number of instances that I believe represented rapid and strong measures. Instead of explaining why those particular instances were not rapid and strong measures (shutting off travel to China etc.) or give specific examples where his actions were slow, you just repeat that the President's response was slow--but that now you don't blame him. SMH.

As for me looking at only half the story, the other day, I turned on MSNBC for a few minutes to see what they were doing and they were reporting on the bogus ABC story. (That is how I found out about it.) After reporting about that, they repeated the bogus WHO BS about Trump politicizing the virus and then said that Trump had--without evidence--attacked the WHO for downplaying the effects of the virus. (See timeline top of page: January 14.)

BTW, if anyone is wondering where I have arrived at my understanding of what will happen when the country is re-opened, it is based on these and similar comments by the doctors who have the ear of the President and are, essentially, running the show. Yeah, sure, the President will make the decision, but I have no doubt but that he will lean heavily on these two doctors. It appears to me that he has tremendous confidence in their judgement.

In the briefing today, the President (jokingly) suggested that Dr. Fauci should move to New York and run against AOC.

Actually, my understanding is that OAN was barred from the briefings by the White House Correspondence Association (WHCA). As I understand it, this kind of blew up into a thing after a pro-Chinese reporter was given access to the briefings and was allowed to ask a question. Since then they have implemented new distancing rules which I suppose involves a rotation of correspondents and I am not sure what the current situation is with respect to OAN.

I could give some links to articles about this, but in the interest of your attitude about avoiding documented facts when speaking from the heart, I won't bother. The only purpose for a link, really, is for the convenience of the reader. Among other things, it allows the reader to check the context of excerpts quoted from an article and generally reveals the bias of the poster. I think you are mistaken. I believe Dr. Fauci has been pretty darn consistent in saying that data trumps models, that data drives models and that models are only as good as the assumptions of the modelers. The first time I heard him speak on the subject, he made those very points.

The only TV I have watched much lately is the daily briefing by the President and his task force. Getting news from the horse's mouth seems better to me than having it filtered by the news media. I can get an idea of that filter by the questions that are asked at the briefing.

Common sense doesn’t necessarily need links especially when there
are “alternative facts” or the need to tear them down to win an
argument because I’d much rather respect your opinion than find
fault in your point.

Dan, you can read or not read anything at your pleasure. My preference is that anyone who reads my post give then due consideration. I would note that I differentiate facts and opinion. It is often said that a person has a right to his own opinion, but not his own facts. I believe it. Opinions do not become facts merely because they are repeated over and over. An opinion repeated a hundred times is still an opinion. You can say it is common sense, but it is still just an opinion.

You err when you confuse facts with opinions. (At least, that is my opinion.)
